Criminalistics: An Introduction to Forensic Science
D**.
It's ok, but...
Criminalistics is obviously for a student or professor interested in forensics. This is a standard text, maybe written a little better than some. The problem with all of these kinds of textbooks is that it is out of date a few days after you receive it...the book is already in it's next edition! What I don't understand is, does the field of criminalistics change all that much so quickly? I understand that improvements and innovations in technology happen rapidly, but in looking at this text you wonder what it is that changed. While it is a good text, covering all the essentials of criminalistics, I'm not sure it's worth the price. It would be better to rent this text from some source if you really like it rather than purchase it outright.

Love Richard Saferstein
Although i was required to read this text to attain a certificaiton, I thought this book was easy to read. I loved the chapter openers and case studies at the end of some of the chapters.

Criminalistics
This book was great and has LOADS of information on all aspects of forensics, from its history, to DNA, Fiber, Computer forensics and just about any other type of forensics you can think of. Not only does it include a basic background of all these fields, but it also guides you to more advanced teachings in a way that does not have you getting lost along the way. Great book, LOTS of information, easy to read.

Excellent reference
This is a well written book by an expert in the field. The only problem I had relates to the publisher, Pearson/Prentice Hall. The text is supposed to come with two supplementary CDs in the back of the book, but the publishing company has stopped including them. According to the representative I spoke with the CDs are no longer made. Some of the text descriptions still include references to the supplemental CDs, so be aware they are no longer available.
