I purchased to pull soil samples from my yard without making holes with a shovel. I pulled soil from 16 areas and left no trace of damage to my turf. It's built well, sharpened on the end, which makes it easy to push into the ground. The large T-handle makes it even easier to push down and twist to obtain the best sample at your desired depth. Soil stays in the tube by design, so when you pull the probe from the soil, you do not lose your sample. It functions perfectly. Would I buy another...no, because this is built well enough to last my lifetime. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who needs one.

Simple, well made, easy to clean, needed for soil sampling. Used this to discover lack of micronutrients in my potted citrus trees. Able to pull up soil from several inches below the drip line. An elegant solution!

Product is definitely small, but it looks and feels sturdy. Mine did not have sharp edges, but was able to penetrate through my lawn in most places which is more clay like. My soil is also rocky so I was careful not to force it when I hit rocks. Took 4 samples, about 2 oz or so the first day. It does a little effort to extract the sample, particularly in the closed tube part but easily solved with a screwdriver. Accuracy isn’t going to be quite that easy but it is only so big so you won’t be far off.

Sturdy construction. In Ga everything is clay. Had to tap it with my foot a couple time to get the depth I needed and it handled it no problem.

The only reason I left a three star is because I fertilized my yard shorty before this arrived so I am waiting so I can get accurate test results. At first glance it looks very well made but the real test is to see how it does because I live in NW GA and the clay here gets hard as a rock this time of the year... I will update later for a proper review.Update 8/7/21 this is a great product but if you have clay soil be ready for a fight to get this thing in the ground with ease!!! I use a rubber mallet to drive it in. The cores are great but a little tricky to extract. I will probably upgrade to a better one but this gets the job done.

Solid, heavy construction. I would have no concerns about using a mallet to drive this into tough soils. The handle is comfortable, and is solidly attached to the shaft. The open slot makes sample removal easy, although you tend to get a 1/2 cylinder of soil sample, rather than a nice round cylinder. It is nice to not need a push stick to pop a sample out of the tool.

I read a lot of reviews about finish welds, etc. honestly it pokes a hole in the ground and brings out a core. Does the job well. I need it to sample the lawn, not win pebble beach concours.
