Jim Dunlop Black Pickholder

It never ceases to amaze me when something so inexpensive and seemingly simple can have such a big impact. I was forever losing picks. I would find myself on stage fumbling in pockets, or appealing to other musicians in the audience to save me from my disorganization and forgetfulness, but no more! The Jim Dunlop Black Pickholder is stuck firmly and securely on the face of my guitar and now I always have a pick ready to go whenever I need one. it has stayed stuck on despite my guitar almost daily being put in and out of its gig bag. It easily holds the over-sized Clayton picks that I sometimes used, or the small standard size Tortex ones I also favor. I will never be without this pickholder.

These Dunlop pick holders are great, and this new one seems to be as good quality as my old one. I've had the old pick holder on my acoustic for years and it seams as good as new. It holds multiple picks, and the spring-depression plate design make it easy to remove the top pick without all the others trying to come along.This does require you to stick the pick-holder to your guitar with a piece of attached foam tape, so if you are worried about having a permanent object attached to your guitar and it ruining the surface if you try to remove it, this may not be for you.That didn't bother me because my guitars aren't $1000+ instruments, so for me it was perfect. That being said, this holds picks securely enough that someone could potential attach this somewhere on their guitar strap (I can't guarantee the foam tape stick well enough for this, so don't quote me on that) and the picks would still stay put.

I'm a notorious pick dropper. Multiple times during performances I've lost my pick during songs and been forced to either awkwardly pick it up again or use my fingers to finish songs out (I recommend neither). These little guys are a life saver. Just stick it onto your guitar (I prefer the back end: out-of-sight and still convenient if you need a quick replacement), fill it with picks and get going.One will notice this thing is pretty big. It's big enough to house anything from regular totex picks to the massive triangular bass picks and deep enough to hold 4-8 spares, give or take depending on pick gagues. Just keep in mind that if you use jazz picks you'll likely have to find a different solution. The small size of a proper jazz pick doesn't protrude nearly enough from the holder to make gripping a spare any kind of convenient.Outside of desperately needing to come in differing sizes these pick holders really can't be beat. Easy to install, convenient to have and (perhaps most importantly) cheap enough to take a gamble on.That $2 isn't gonna get you any other gear as handy and neat as this.

This pick holder is pretty good I can usually hold like 5ish picks depending on thickness the adhesive on the back stays on good and doesn't leave any residue after removing it which was a relief. The only problem the pick holed has it that every once in a while if your pick gets sweaty and you put it in the holder when you go to take it out it gets stuck and is pretty difficult to get out which is pretty frustrating but other that that its a good pick holder it would be a great little gift for guitar players.

Much larger than I expected but it is well designed.

I was preparing to write a 4-star review after being frustrated that multiple picks would slide out at once whenever I tried to remove the top one, but then I discovered that if I put them in face down, I can easily remove only the top one. I think it's because the face side (with the lettering) has more texture, so putting them in face down helps the bottom picks to stick to the holder or the other picks below them, instead of pulling out along with the top pick. Obviously your picks may be different than mine, but for my Dunlop Tortex .50 MM and .60 MM picks, it seems to work great.I still find it a little difficult to get a pick to slide out nicely because they always want to catch on the edge of the holder, but if you press down lightly and slide, it works all right. The pick holder serves its purpose. I would probably rate it 4.5 stars if fractions were possible.Also, the description doesn't make it clear, but the pick holder comes with a piece of adhesive on the back to stick on your guitar or wherever you like.

I've had these off and on through the years -- they're a great solution to a problem most performing guitarists have. You drop your pick in the middle of a gig or a song, and you don't have the time to go fishing around on the floor to find it. Yes, you'll recover it later, but in the meantime you need something with which to play the guitar. Stick this guy on the back of your guitar's headstock and fill it with your favorite picks. It doesn't hold a ton of them, but I've found I can fit four or five (maybe six?) dunlop .88's in mine, which is more than enough for my purposes. There are other solutions to the problem of pick loss mid-gig, but I haven't found one that I like more than this one. I know where my picks are, they aren't visible to anyone but me (so no issues of theft or whatever), and it's an area of the guitar I'm not going to bump by accident. That's what I don't like about the microphone-stand pick holders. Also, not all guitarists do backing vocals, and not all gigs have microphones. This is a good, low-tech, flexible solution to a common guitar player problem. I recommend.

It’s larger than just the 351, so it will likely fit most (Not your triangles). I love the thin triangles and cut them to my preferred shape and they fit. I’ve never tried a Wedgie but it would take up half the space. Holds a dozen or so. Little sticky pad on back, probably change out for Velcro. Nice for the price and rounds up all those picks all over the amp. Go!
