In a perfect world, this product wouldn't suck so bad...
I bought this merely to pull water out of water lines and drain lines to facilitate my working. The first time I used it, it worked ok - couldn't lift more than about a 1/3rd of the chamber which was better than the alternative. A couple of months past between the first use and the second time I planned to use it. This product has been kept inside and never exposed to temperature extremes so imagine my surprise when it would not suck a tablespoon of water. Of course it can't be returned now - lucky me...

Good for moving water, but not much else
It moves water very effectively. I was hoping to use it for slurping out material in crevices while gold panning but the nozzle is unfortunately too narrow to suck up anything but the finest of particles

Almost
I have a lot of house plants, many of which are quite large and heavy. The need to evacuate water from the saucers underlying the pots brought me to this product. Towels are messy, and the gool ol' turkey baster takes way too long. I imagined a large syringe would be able to suck water from the narrow space in between the pot and lip of the saucer, and hold enough water that the job could be done quickly. I was pleased to find this product. Although the price was exorbitant, I figured it was worth it, considering the number of plants I have. In theory, this is the ideal solution. But practically, there's a real problem holding the water in the tube while transferring it to the receiving receptacle (the bucket). Even with the bucket only2 or 3 inches away from the saucer, it is very difficult to keep the sucked-up water inside the syringe when moving it to the bucket to dump it out. The water wants to fall out of the tube as soon as the suction (pulling back on the plunger) stops, so it sloshes onto the floor. I tried tipping the pump tip upward to prevent the water from falling out, but there are 3 vent holes in the top cap of the syringe (needed to release air when the plunger gets pulled back) which the water comes out of. And even the movement of turning the pump up wards causes water to fall out the siphon tip. Thinking about a hypodermic syringe, the liquid in the tube is prevented from coming out due to the narrowness of the opening in the needle. So I am going to try to devise a cone which will fit over the tip, making the hole much smaller and maybe then it will not be so easy for the water to just slosh back out. This is so close to being right, but as it is, unless you are using it outside or somewhere else you don't mind getting things wet, it's not very functional. I would rate it 2 stars, but I give it another 2 stars because it seems to be made of quality materials and because I just might be using it wrong. :)

Important tool
The only disappointment I have regarding this Syringe Siphon Suction Water Pumps is - - that I did not buy one sooner! It does not cost that much, and when you have a broken sprinkler head or water line you almost always have to dig that hole to replace the fitting. The next step is to get the muddy water out of the hole, right? That is when this tool becomes the best tool in your kit and it becomes worth every nickel. Don't wait until you are there and decide to go looking for a soup can and end up with sopping wet muddy knees. Buy one now. This tool is sooo much easier and faster. No, I did not get paid to say this. I just empathize with other DIY guys.

I received the syringe today. It is big! and used it to transfer gasoline from my lawnmower to my vehicle and this was accomplished in a lot less time than the smaller syringe I had

This is a sturdy syringe-style pump. Operation is simple and obvious – pull on the handle to suck water through the tube. You can then dispose of the water by squirting it across the lawn, or at an enemy. The 8-inch "hose" is actually a stiff plastic tube which pushes in place on the tip of the syringe and is held by friction. It could use a better method of attachment. If you squirt the water out too hard, you will see the tube flying through the air with the water. A bit of waterproof tape would hold it on. The tube is quite wide, with an inside diameter of nearly a centimetre, so after you've sucked up some water, you need to tip the end upwards, or it will drain out again. It can be disassembled for cleaning, or just run some water through it.
