A bit disappointing
I received this as a Christmas gift and I loved it! But then, I ran into some issues. First, the sign I chose says it needs the grey and red in 2 strands. The symbols on the pattern are for black and red though. I had already completed the border in gray so I just left it that way. It took about half of the gray floss for the border. I switched to black for the words but I’m only halfway done with the words and out of black. If I had used black for both the border and the words, I would need twice as much as it came with. There is enough material to make the one sign and maybe a couple bookmarks. It’s fraying a lot on the edges in comparison to other cloths that I’ve used. Another issue that I came across was symmetry. I’m a bit of a perfectionist but the spaces in a word aren’t consistent and the letters are not symmetrical. The letter O has on stitch on the right column and 7 on the opposite column. I just counted stitches and modified it to be what I wanted.

Fun kit
Fun kit but the snark was kind of less quirky more obnoxious

Quite disappointing, don’t buy
I do all kinds of tired crafting. Crochet, knit, embroidery and cross stitch (aka: CS, for rest of review). I learned CS at 8 years old and many decades later (don’t ask how many) I still find joy in it. So, when one of my kids asked to learn one of my crafts, I chose CS because of how simple it was. Once he finished the project I designed for him, he wanted something with a bit more challenge that would be “funny”. I didn’t have the time to create a new pattern for him, so I bought this, since it had 14 patterns, said it was snarky and had a high star rating. However, it was not a good purchase at all. The floss was cheap and tangled easily, and most the patterns were for bookmarks. All letters were block letters (pics above) no difference in the alphabet design for any of the patterns, really, aside from the letters being single or doubled lined to make a word bigger. The ones that have borders were basic (ex: a line border with a very basic daisy in the corner, (pictured above). Only a few patterns are able to be displayed and what’s written on them is kind of…odd? Ex: 1. “We don’t call the cops with a police hat 3. “I’m married and I live with my mistakes” So very much a particular set of taste. The other patterns are 5 bookmarks, a bib, luggage tag, hand towel and a top for a jar (which I didn’t even know was a thing you could do…so I guess I learned something). The Aida supplied would not cover the projects in this book, there is nothing in the kit to separate the colors of floss with and if it’s a “complete kit” shouldn’t there be a bib, hand towel and jar top in it? (Or whatever you would CS on for a jar top?). I admit, I haven’t done any of the patterns, but just by looking, I know there isn’t enough Aida. I took out some of the floss and separated it, and it kept knotting up, just pulling it apart. I did a few stitches in the corner of the CS I am working on and it kept knotting up while stitching as well, so after 4 st, I cut it and pulled it out, because frustration was building VERY quick. Definitely would not recommend. If you want to learn how to CS, EVERY Walmart has a spot in their craft section with all you need to CS a pattern from a few inches big, to a 5x7. All under $5 and clear instructions. If you’re a seasoned CS, and looking for ideas, there are books and websites with a bunch. A lot even for free. Materials, well you can but Aida by the roll here on Amazon and huge bills of good quality floss. Just don’t buy this. You’ll be disappointed. CS, as with any crafting project, should be relaxing, and cause joy as you watch your work come together. Not aggravation and frustration (seriously, the floss it that bad…I promise. I’m not just being a floss snob).

Not enough material included to complete a project
Only comes with enough fabric to make 1 sign and maybe 2 bookmarks and doesn't come with enough thread to complete a sign as I'm now out of black thread. Very disappointing.
