Study breeding and think it through careful before attempting. It can be very costly
The single most complete book breeding I have read. Very complete, funny, makes sense. Addresses the issues. Read his first two chapters well. Breeding can be very costly and a risk. We have budgeted our experience and to raise our golden retriever for 2.5 years and then breed and then have complications like c/sections - it cost us over $7,000 (The purchase of our female was only $1000) before we made a dime. We sold the 8 puppies for $1000 each and now have a female that can't have puppies again. It was intense work and some of the puppies would have died if I had not had advanced training. A big learning experience. You never expect things to go wrong, but when they do it is very expensive. But this book does cover most of the big issues. Sometimes not throughally, but at least mentions them. The survival rate of puppies is only about 70 of puppies. Study first before you try to breed, and if you do, do it wisely. Don't sell a puppy that is not wisely mated either. It is devistating to bond with a dog and find out it has a disease that could have been prevented by wise, careful breeding.
