Omnipotent Onomasticon
This book which is in the style of Schott's Miscellany aims to give a compilation of people and characters, real and imaginary. This is a vast challenge to attempt and the list of omissions tends to dominate the list of inclusions as in inevitable in such an attempt. The first part is an alphabetical arrangement which includes the Cheshire Cat but omits Toad of Toad Hall, includes Humpty Dumpty but omits Harry Potter and includes Stephen Farthing but omits Farthing Wood. The second section groups names and gives further information to put them into context and is far more useful than the earlier list of random names. The groups include Dickensian characters, important science fiction writers, Shakespeare's players, plays and characters and collectors and their collectables (this is obviously a personal passion of the author as this section was also in the companion volume 'The Book of What?'). How many times does the reader want to know that a vecturist collects transport tokens?
