Recommended for all
Great book for people to understand that the way Black people speak is indeed a language, not slang. Great book

Not sure how I feel about this book
This book's ideas would be good in an all black school or in a class focusing on Black Language, but for a regular classroom it's exclusionary.

Terrible message for our youth
This is written from the perspective of the BLM agenda. Absolute propaganda and a step backwards, reversed racism.

Maybe the most important book this teacher has ever read
This book broke down linguistic racism in a way that renders its existence undeniable. I felt called out in important ways, and I felt empowered to stop being complicit and to strive toward being actively antiracist, linguistically speaking. I have been recommending it to everyone and will continue to do so. This book is a gift.

An essential read for A Level Sociology teachers in the UK
This is a fantastic book! Moreover, it is essential reading for A Level Sociology teachers who are teaching about ‘linguistic deprivation’. This book is a real eye-opener, and it tackles the structural racism and damaging discourses that urgently need challenging.
