Beautiful book to give as a host/hostess gift...

Great book!!

This book was a big disappointment.....several pictures of business titans and families.....many pictures of summertime white blond preppies....no pictures of working class Nantucket......no pictures of Jamaican or Bulgarian workers....no pictures of African meeting house.....Nantucket was part of underground railroad....a bastion of Quaker tolerance....This book is a refutation of all the diversity this Island represents....now and in our history!

Call me a curmudgeon, but this is not the Nantucket I know. The garish turquoise and orange of the book binding is a dead giveaway: these are definitely not colors found in nature on Nantucket. Florida Gator colors?! The whole book is like a slick travel magazine article. It tries to give a sense of the camaraderie and community you find on the Island, but it does not capture the magic. The feeling you get there is indescribable. You have to experience it to know it - and you WILL know it. The book reaches for that feeling but doesn’t grasp it. It’s too busy being chic and self-absorbed. “Look at me - I summer on Nantucket” (see verb: to live the perfect idealized lifestyle). There are other books that portray the essence of the Island in a more authentic way.

This is a book about Nantucket style, beautifully depicting the charm of this far away island in a unique and glorious display of design it sets out to do. .

What a disappointment this photobook is to me. I love Nantucket and have visited often. Because of Covid this is not possible, so I wanted a photobook instead. But most of the pictures are of models wearing yuppie clothes or close ups of fish, ice, sand and shells. They could have been taken anywhere in the world on a beach, even here where I live on the beach near The Hague in the Netherlands. No pictures of beautiful Nantucket town, Main street, the shops, Murrays, the captains houses. Very very disappointing
