Large Capacity And Easy Trigger Release!!
I've owned a charcoal starter chimney for many years, but it had rusted severely and just needed to be replaced. I searched Amazon and found the Char-Griller chimney starter and loved the idea of the quick trigger release. It's perfect! It has about 30% more capacity than my old chimney starter and works really well. My charcoal is ready for grilling within 20 minutes and the trigger release allows the dumping the charcoal into my grill with ease (make sure you have a pair of heat resistant gloves to prevent burning your hands). Just buy it. You won't be disappointed!!!!

What is a "Stovepipe?
So I purchased a smoker and the guy that I purchased it from says, "oh man it is so easy, you just load the stovepipe with charcoal and when it gets hot then you dump it into the lower bowl...". Now I am not one of those people who will go along with something I don't know, acting like I do, so I ask, "Stovepipe?!?" He says, "yeah, you grill don't you? How do you get the charcoal started?". I explained that I put the charcoal into a pyramid and then use starter fluid, and he quickly cut me off. "Starter fluid?!? Nah Boss, you need a stovepipe. It is better..." Again, I looked at him with deer eyes and sideways turned dog head and said, "Stovepipe? what is a stovepipe?". He pulls out his phone and goes to Amazon and shows me a pic of the Chargriller CHIMNEY Starter. I then go, "Oh! I have seen those...do they work well?". "All you need is charcoal, some newspaper, and a match..." he says. So I order this Chimney starter(...stovepipe). When I get it, I notice that it is larger than I thought that it would be. I wad up about thre pages of newspaper in a ring under the starter and load up the charcoal. I light the newspaper through the holes at the bottom and was surprised to see how quickly it was lighting without starter fluid. After a little while I pick up the chimney and pull the trigger to find that the charcoal just empties in to the bowl, no muss, no fuss. I believe that is the simplest lighting that I have had. I am very satisfied qith my Chimney and now I don't use lighter fluid at all. I suppose he was right...on the advice, not the name...but, really...what's in a name?

Good enough
It worked very well until it rusted out after about 2-1/2 years. But then, if left outside all the time, expect that to happen. I like the trigger that released the bottom so the coals can fall out. Holds a lot of charcoal. Might have to get another one.

I'd buy it again
This is larger then an average size chimney which my husband loves and it gets the job done. The only reason why I give it a 4 is because the trigger to dump the coals gets stuck and doesn't work so you just have to dump them manually which isn't a huge deal but just wanted to note that that function was poorly executed. Other then that though I'm satisfied with the product.

Does a great job
This is my second chimney in 10 years. The first one finally rusted through since I'm unable to store it inside. I like the trigger to allow the hot coals to drop through. A lot less risk of burning yourself when turning the chimney upside down. I started with that type and sparks always flew up towards my face.

Fantastic large capacity charcoal chimney for under $20
Fantastic large capacity charcoal chimney for under $20. Works exactly as advertised and does what its supposed to to. I feel compelled to address 2 negatives mentioned in other reviews. #1 - the chimney discolors after use and especially if left outdoors. Duh! What do you expect? This is not a gazillion dollar NASA re-entry vehicle. High heat and exposure to the elements will of course impact the appearance of most metals. #2 - The bottom drops out after dumping the hot coals. Another Duh! Again, what do you expect for $20? To design and utilize a door return mechanism that will stand up to repeated high heat would probably result in a retail cost of at least $50. After you dump the hot coals, simply invert the chimney, pull the door release mechanism and viola....the door returns to the proper position and is ready for your next use. Common sense.

Perfect large chimney
Great quality, large size charcoal chimney. It works great, the bottom opener is a great feature and the shield does not let the handle get hot at all.

Buy it - HUGE improvement from the standard chimney starters.
Trigger release is life changing!!! Had to replace my old chimney starter after my neighbor accidentally recycled it thinking I had left it with the trash. This new chimney starter starts far faster (better airflow) and the trigger release is a huge improvement. No more burned clothes and lost arm hairs from flying embers. And I used to occasionally lose a lump of charcoal overboard. I had been considering buying a new BBQ with charcoal feeder but this starter is so easy, I'll probably stick with a traditional bbq!

Brilliant. No coals fall to the floor that could hurt kids and pets.
They all should be constructed this way. Discharges the coals right into the BBQ without the risks associated with tipping the thing over. Greatly reduces sparks and small pieces dripping to the floor.
