Sixteen-year-old Mandy Lane (Amber Heard) has been courted by every available man in her small Texas town to no avail. When the normally reclusive enchantress reluctantly agrees to accompany her new friends on a weekend getaway, the initially irritating adolescent advances made toward her rapidly turn menacing. As the sun falls behind the hills a volatile mix of drugs, alcohol, and hormones turns explosive. While the festivities rage on, the number of party-goers begins to mysteriously drop one at a time.

This film has some odd difference which makes it stand out in a crowd
Wow. I was expecting a totally run-of-the-mill teen slasher flick--and very basically, it is just that--but it has a difference, an originality which took me completely by surprise. This film dares to vary from formula, and manages to maintain real tension and suspense in spite of going its own way.The basic story is: teens go for an outing at remote house, get slain one by one. How different can that be from thousands of others with the same plot? That's what I was thinking going in, but amazingly, the filmmakers managed to take an incredibly well-worn plot, and transform it into something you feel you're seeing for the first time. There's some true talent in this production.I avoided this film for the longest time, thinking it would be the epitome of every trite and well-worn device I had seen hundreds of times before. I finally broke down and watched it because I was getting desperate. And it turned out to be one of the better flicks of this genre that I have seen.Films like this are why I keep watching. Every once in a while you come across one that shows a creativity, an originality--a true talent--that encourages you to keep wading through the dross.I don't want to over-praise it--there are flaws--but this film makes you see there are truly talented filmmakers out there that hopefully will go on to bigger budgets and greater fame.

A stupid, pointless teen-drama with no discernable plot.
Okay, so this really pretty high school girl named Mandy (Amber Heard) is considered to be really hot by the boys at her school (hence the film's title). One day several of these school kids invite her to join them at a ranch owned by the father of one of the boys, and she agrees to go. Unbeknownst to the kids, one of their classmates is a murderous psycho who follows them out there and begins killing them off, one by one. One of the girls is a pretty blonde named Chloe (Whitney Able), and she's every bit as hot as Mandy. In the end, we discover that the pyscho killer isn't the only murderous wacko out there. This story must have been written & directed by chimpanzees, despite the attractive casting. It's just horrible.

Extra star for the twist ending
Mean girls (and boys) get what's coming to them in this high school horror tale that personifies the trope that "payback's a bitch". Some gore but not excessive. Good production values and a really surprising twist ending that I did not see coming. Amber Herd does a good job here and is believable (and adorable) in the role she plays. This is a cut above most of the horror schlock included in Prime. Recommended for fans of high school revenge horror.

Michael Welch has skills.
This movie is less predictable than others of its genre, if you don't mind the wait. A lot of the time went towards showing the audience that all teenagers think about is sex, but the lead character is above that. I don't know if any of that time was meant to make us sympathetic to Amber Heard's imaginary plight or to give her situations where she looked on with a vapid, disconnected stare (which she does). Michael Welch, despite his meager camera time, wins me over time and again. He needs to be seen more often.

Good for back round noise.
About what I expected. If Drive-ins were still around, this would be the main attraction of double, or triple feature. A great deal for about $1.00 a person carload to waste some time. Mine came with a shattered case like someone smacked it like a bar of Turkish Taffy.

Worth it
I don't know what I was expecting but I wanted bloodshed. And I got it. Started fairly slow and started out like a normal teenage drama movie. As it kept going along, things changed and the going got good. The storyline took some twists but in all the right directions. The quality of the film is also something to note and was actually beautiful to watch. Pretty good film and worth the watch.

Meh, it's okay. Just watch it on the side as you do something else.
I couldn't get into the story. How many times have we seen some high schooler with access to a multi-million dollar house/property? Ugh. I might have been able to get passed that, but there was no connection between the ending and why it happened that way. They tried to keep it a surprise, but instead it turned into a 'really... sigh' moment.

Things aren't going to plan
This 2006 [released 2008 in the UK] American slasher film stars Amber Heard as Mandy Lane, who developed into a "hot chick" over the summer and suddenly got very popular with the boys who all want to "get with her" and all the girls want to be her. Mandy seems unsettled by all the attention and when the ‘popular’ crowd invite her to a pool party, she insists that geeky friend Emmet comes along. However, a prank goes tragically wrong and Emmet is blamed. Nine months later and the two have drifted apart as Mandy has joined the ‘popular’ kids, and she accepts an invitation to her friend Red's frat party, taking place at his fathers deserted ranch. As Mandy and her group of five friends settle down to a weekend of drunken debauchery fuelled by cocaine, pot, and booze, Mandy isn’t impressed by it all and remains somewhat aloof, preferring ranch hand Garth who is looking after the ranch. This is a very competent, stylish slasher in the style of ‘Friday the 13th’ and ‘Scream’. It's an enjoyable watch and is very much a throwback to the 80's slasher films, with the usual line up of promiscuous teens in peril getting killed off in various brutal ways by an unknown killer. However a few things distinguish this from others of its type, the first being that the first murder doesn't actually happen until over 30 minutes into the film, which helped set the scene, bumping up the tension and the story once things did start to kick in. The other is the ingenious twist at the end which also raises questions as to the motivations of the main protagonists, which are easy to figure, but not adequately explained [lose a *].Compared to most films of the genre the killings tend to be standard fare and not over the top long drawn out gore fests, and many may not like the ‘slow’ start, so hard-core slasher fans may be disappointed. However, I still feel this is worth a solid **** rating just barely missing the top marks.

Some unexpected pluses (but not enough)
I picked up on this film after seeing a US TV interview on how Harvey Weinstein outbid everyone for the movie rights after seeing it at a festival screening and then had major issues in his organisation about how to market it given they do not normally touch horror films! So after nearly three years, the film was finally issued direct onto DVD which delay and treatment cannot have pleased any of the original cast and crew one suspects? The film is not your normal "slasher" movie despite other reviews stating this and to win the Audience Award 2008 at the Sundance Film Festival indicates the film cannot be wholly all dire. Without giving the story away, the film has a pretty good script about teenagers and observations on their sexual and predatory attitudes with the killer being revealed pretty early on. The other enjoyable aspect is excellent cinematography (DoP Darren Genet) making full use of the rural landscape around Austin Texas where it was filmed and some high quality editing compared with the poor quality of most other low budget horror movies. The cast is mostly first timers but are not that bad overall given the shared group nature of such genre movies. Amber Heard in the lead role based on her excruciating interview included in the DVD, makes you realise how skilful her acting in the film actually is!So overall not a classic but different enough to merit a viewing!

See Mandy Play
!!!WARNING. MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!!!Mandy Lane is a very popular girl. All the girls want to be friends with her, all the boys want to be more than friends. Mandy, however, seems oblivious to all the attention, preferring just to hang around with geeky friend Emmet. Whe she is invited to a pool party, she insists that Emmet comes along. However, things go horribly wrong when a prank by Emmet leads to a death.Nine months later and the two have drifted apart. Mandy has a new circle of friends, and against her mothers advice, she accepts an invitation to her friend Red's frat party, taking place at a deserted ranch. As Mandy and her group of five friends settle down to a weekend of drunken debauchery, it soon becomes clear that something is amiss down on the farm. One by one, the party of six are brutally murdered, and it seems that an uninvited guest has let their love for Mandy Lane turn to a dangerous obsession...This is a very competant, stylish slasher. It's an enjoyable watch and as other reviewers have mentioned, it is very much a throwback to the endless cycle of 80's slasher films, with the usual line up of promiscuous teens in peril. However, whilst it does superficially resemble those films, it does contain an ingenious twist at the end that was definately worth the wait. It's a twist that also raises many questions as to the motivations of the main protagonists. These questions are in the main left up to the audience to interpret.Where the film is a slight down for me, is that it hardly draws on the backgrounds of any of the characters. This inevitably does make it difficult for the viewer to really care about any of their fates. So, although it does work as a clinical slasher film, I was slightly dissapointed that there was so so little expostion as to what made the characters tick and their subsequent behaviours and motivations. Still, it all passes the time very painlessly, even if it did leave me with a slightly empty feeling as the end credits rolled.Very little worth mentioning in regard to extras on the disc. The main event a rather prefunctionary interview with lead actor Amber Heard. 3 out of 5 for the whole package.

Horrible picture quality!!!!
I would rather give this blu ray no stars if it were possible. The picture quality is extremely bad. I thought to myself after purchasing it "What the hell was I thinking"? I know some directors like to use different camera techniques and distort the picture quality but some just ruin the picture totally. Glad it was going cheap here!
