This is the textbook used at son's school. I got the Lvl A for first grade, and it helped a lot. We are going to use this at home for summer, for advanced learning. We have gone through several pages, and the first few lessons were more of a repeat from the Lvl A book, which is somewhat boring for my child since he "knows it all" and think it's "so easy". I personally find the whole series of this book a little too repetitive. But my son's teacher said that children absorb the lessons better if it is repeated over and over. Also, she said that having the same activity makes it easier for the kids to do the activities on their own, since they already know the format.

I bought this book as part of our homeschooling for my second grader. He’s almost done with the book. It’s one of his favorite subjects. There are a couple of pages he didn’t care for and neither did I so we skipped those. Other than that, it’s a great little phonics book and it keeps things interesting for the child.

I'm so glad I was able to find these books on Amazon for such a good price. They are the updated version of the same books I've relied on for years for teaching phonics which were printed by Curriculum Press. If you want a guaranteed, reliable way of teaching phonics from the ground up, these books are the way to go. It is comprehensive and progressive. I've only used books A and B so far for tutoring grade 1 and 2. I first discovered level A book when tutoring my first student. His private school was using them. So I was impressed by that.

I used this phonics book for many years in my classroom and found it to be an excellent resource to accompany classroom instruction for beginning readers. I am now retired but when asked to help an elementary student needing these same skills I was so pleased to see that this book was updated and still being published. Thank you Prentice-Hall for continuing to publish this excellent resource.
