Q: Will these work for under a kitchen table to move around and lock in place

Good day, These rugged, durable movers are designed to move rolls of carpet, or sheet goods, equipment, furniture and appliances. Each dolly holds up to 1000 lbs. They easily extend from 24" to 33" with spring lock pins. The wheels do not lock in place. Thank you, Customer Service

We have used two together to move a 1300lb machine. We love these. Bought 3 sets

Q: How close can the pads be adjusted towards each other? At it's closest is there a gap between the pads?

At closest point, inside of pads are 12 inches from each other, outside of those pads are 24 1/2 inches from each other.
