Great device I will use all the time, sad it had no instructions
Sturdy and well-built product that I will use all the time. It was easy enough to figure out the basics, but I wish it could go further, maybe with some instructions. It's kind of a good or bad result. It either works or it doesn't, instead of indicating a short or wrong pin configuration. It's just a quick way to check if a wire is functioning but not how well it is doing it. Still, it's a great tool to save time when unsure if a cable is working. I like that it tests HDMI, audio, video, and networking cables.

Solid built and useful!
This product is built solid and a utilitarians dream. Wish I had this sooner, great for troubleshooting cord issues. The only thing I wish it had was a better reference for the light patterns for non-conventional cables.

Device does exactly what it is made for in a very good way
Device does exactly what it is made for in a very good way. If you have many types of cables this device is a good choice to test the cables for suitability and functionality. USB cables are so easy to separate whether they pass data and power or just power, do I have a USB 3 gen1 or gen 2 or gen 2x2. Does my HDMI work properly.Only disadvantage is the lack of a DisplayPort control option.Big price difference between Amazon Europe and Amazon.com

works but not sure how
I purchased this tester for the sound system at my Synagague. It works perfectly. Loved the ability to seperate the two halfs and test cable ends that are seperated from each other. the biggest appeal to me for wanting to purchase this tester was the ability to generate a test tone. Used it to verify proper connection of each input to the snake and back to the board. My biggest issue is lack of a full understanding of how the tester works internally. With the tester connected to a channel I can generate a test tone all the way from channel input all the way to the speakers but when tester is removed channel was dead. Come to find out the cable was bad. If the cable is bad why was the test tone working? I suspect the test tone only generates an unbalanced signal as opposed to a mic or instrument through a DI box. Channel works with an unbalanced signal through a bad cable but a fully balanced signal the broken cable causes an issue. Mistake on my part but the tester really sent me on a wild goose chase trying to figure out the issue

cable tester
The MFL 13-Plug Audio Cable Tester has been a game-changer in my audio setup, providing a reliable means to troubleshoot and ensure the integrity of my audio cables. From the perspective of someone with a bit more experience, this cable tester stands out for its simplicity and effectiveness. It's user-friendly, allowing me to quickly identify faulty cables and diagnose issues without hassle. The versatility of this tester is impressive; it accommodates various plug types commonly found in audio equipment. Whether it's XLR, TRS, or RCA, this tester covers a wide range, making it a go-to tool for checking different cables in my collection. The build quality is solid, with durable casing and clear indicators, making it easy to read the test results. It's a compact and portable device, fitting easily into my gear bag, ensuring I have it on hand for gigs or studio sessions. However, while it effectively checks cable continuity, having additional features like signal strength indication or phantom power testing could further enhance its utility, especially for more comprehensive audio diagnostics.

The last cable tester you will probably ever need
One note: the version in the pictures at time of review indicates there is an RJ11 tester built in, which is not the case, the new model now has USB-C to USB-C test capabilities instead. I ended up making a couple RJ45 to USB adapter boards to be able to test all USB cables (works great), and have RJ45 to RJ11 adapters to test RJ11. One could really make adapters to test any other non-included cables were they inclined to do so, as between the RJ45 and HDMI inputs there are many paths that can be used (eight for RJ45 and 19 for HDMI). Just something to keep in mind. Now on to the review...This will test just about any kind of cable found in the home and/or home studio, and it does a wonderful job. The best part for me is that you can detach the two units and test cables in place, not having to pull them from installed positions. This to me is worth the cost premium over the other two units, because I have many (TRS and MIDI) cables in place and wanted to be able to test them without removal should I have an issue, and for that it works great. Luckily I have not had to use it for troubleshooting yet, but have tested some cables before implementing in my setup and it did the job wonderfully.

Great tester
I’ve checked every type of cable that this will check and have found no issues. I’ve used known bad cables to see if it catches it and it does every time. Very easy to use plug in each end of the cable and turn the knob. It’s not very bulky it fits nicely in a backpack or duffle bag. I would buy again
