Excellent book about a lesser known graphic designer, architect, letterer and mural and map painter
MacDonald Gill was a lesser known graphic designer, architect, letterer and mural and map painter, but nonetheless an important one. His maps and graphic designs were very much of their time, but they can still be seen - the Houses of Parliament are a case in point. His most enduring monument, and one which many millions have seen and appreciated, is the design and lettering of the standard gravestones used in all the official war graves of all the Allied soldiers, sailors and airmen who gave their lives in both world wars. The book is very weel researched and follows Max's life from gradle to grave in an entertaining and engaging style. The book is also very well laid out, designed and the prodcution values are very high.

It's Time to Learn about MacDonald Gill
Wonderful to see this man's artistic talent, so versatile. Bought a second copy as a gift for a talented and versatile artist friend, who was fascinated..

Wonderful book
So interesting combining maps and art and his life.

Well produced
Beautifully produced book but you have to accept it as an illustrated biography, not an art book. Lots of reproductions of his work throughout but many of them are too small to see much detail. I'd have liked to see more double-page spreads. I hope there's some chance of a coffee-table sized book of McGill's art in the future, as he really deserves one.

The definitive book that fans of Mac Gill fans have been waiting for.
Beautifully produced, extensively researched, reads well. Too heavy to read in bed.
