When reading the details in the description I noticed that one listed the material as Brass and the other listed the material as plastic. Not sure if this is the only difference. But, It is all that I noticed. Then one I bought was plastic and worked great

The maximum gap it can handle is 2-3/4" - you may be able to use it for 3" gap with a small spacer at the end
