Excellent 1st Chronograph
I have wanted a chronograph for years but I haven't done much reloading in several years. I recently decided to load for the Marlin 336 in 30-30 so I got out My old Rock Chucker set and put together various loads. I put the question out here whether this unit could be used on a lever gun with a tubular magazine and I got a myriad of answers both yes and no!! I contacted the manufacturer and they said it could be used mounted on the side of the barrel rather than beneath. Well with some fiddling and several adjustments, it worked. I was able to chronograph several loads with a few hiccups. I'm going to load up some more ammo and go back at it again and I'm sure I can improve my results. It is really easy to use and very beneficial if you are shooting at a public range which would really hamper the use of a classic style chronograph. I will update this review after further use but after my first trial, I am impressed!!!

Good Product
Real easy to use and set up. Have to assume it's accuracy since nothing to compare to yet. Digital readout is simple to use. Negative side is watch for slippage as you shoot. I shoot a .300 WM, so it may just be the recoil causing it to move toward end of barrel. And, you'd think for the price of this thing, they'd give you a better storage case. The one that comes with it, you have to be careful putting it back in. Long plastic box makes for a tight fit. I used an old pistol case to store mine in. Still this chrono is a heck of a lot easier to set up than the wire ones.

Magnetospeed chronograph "Must Have" for serious shooters.
Amazing chronograph, setup takes some fiddling the first time but after that its super fast and easy to do, no more calling cease fire at the range and setting up a chronograph out in front of you hoping that it works, no more problems with optical sensors getting washed out by bright sunlight or not working because its overcast. Magnetospeed knocked this one out of the park. Add the XFR cell phone plug to the equation and the days of optical chronographs are numbered. If you are in the market for a chronograph and are on the fence between this and something like an Oehler Optical Chronograph trust me spend the extra $50-75 on the magnetospeed I have an old Oehler, and while it has served me well over the years and provides very accurate data the weight size and hassle of setup that was weather dependent severely limited my use of it. With the magnetospeed I can just toss it in my range pack, and leave it there, Its so small and light you can take it anywhere and use it under any conditions. I have an "SPR" contour barrel, so its not a medium profile its a little lighter, I shot 75rds out of that gun two days ago, and got a huge data pool for cold ,warm and hot bore , for three different types of ammo, all while I was shooting groups. And as far as I could tell I was not seeing any loss of accuracy. I had a guy one one side of me with a black powder musket shooting cow sized plumes of smoke every shot that hung over the range like fog, I couldnt have used an optical chronograph under those conditions. The magnetospeed didnt bat an eye. Of course putting anything on the barrel changes harmonics and vibration node points, but with a relatively light profiled barrel I saw no negative effects from it hanging on the end of my barrel. So if you have a lightweight hunting barrel you may see a slight loss of accuracy, but the magnetospeed is so light I wouldnt worry. The ease of use and lack of negative effects allows you to get incredibly accurate and detailed data for a wide variety of conditions, I plan on getting velocity for at least a few rounds every trip to the range, that way I can measure what effects temperature and barometric pressure have on my ammo.

this is great
ive had the old habit ears for years but this is a game changer digital read out is basic but does the job records up to 100 rounds before over writing menu is a little trick to navigate but it comes with a nice laminated directions sheet there is a more expensive one that does a bit more but this is a great value! warning is says it doesn't record .22 caliber but i have not tested that over all well worth the money

Most useless device
I received the unit Saturday morning just in time to go to the range Sunday morning. I really wanted to see what my loads were doing so I could dope my rifles. Once I got to the range I hooked up the device on my bolt action and fired a shot, I didn't get any readings. I fired another shot and still no readings, I swapped the rubber that holds onto the barrel to see if that was the issue, still no readings. I tried another rifle since I went with two in order to document the settings up to 500 yards, still no readings on the second rifle. I ended up giving up and just shooting to the best of my ability with old settings in my ballistic program. When I got home I wanted to make sure that I wasn't doing something wrong so I connected the device to my .22 air rifle since I can shoot that in the house. Still no readings after shooting the air rifle, I adjusted the sensitivity to 1 and then 2, still no readings just dashes on the screen.I tried my .177 air rifle and moved the barrel in different positions on the mount, still no reading. Tried the thicker rubber on the mount, still no readings.Did I get a dud or is this thing just garbage? I have read many posts where others are saying that they are not getting any readings and they just gave up. I have also seen many posts where others are getting readings right out of the box. I am not impressed as I shouldn't have to be doing all this back and forth to get something to work, it should be working right out of the box.First thing Tuesday morning this item is being returned. I liked the idea that the device is very small and compact, but its not worth the headaches.

Magnetospeed Chronograph Simple Effective Well Built.
This is the simplest chronograph that I have ever used. First, ownership does not break the band, Second, the instructions are straight forward, Third, it is accurate!!! The only way you could mess up is if you don't follow the instructions. Make sure of the path of your bullet AND YOU ARE GOOD FOR GO!!! I am happy with this purchase and even though it says for center-fire rifles it will work with the 17HMR.
