Chen Tai Chi: Cannon Fist (YMAA Tai Chi Dvd) Chenhan Yang 2024

Master Chenhan Yang teaches Chen-style Old Frame Second Road (Laojia Erlu), also known as "Cannon Fist" (Pau Chui). This form is traditionally studied after proficiency with Old Frame First Road (Laojia Yilu) is attained. Cannon Fist movements are generally faster and harder, and utilize more striking, leaping, and sweeping than the movements of the first form. This DVD follows a similar step-by-step teaching pattern to Chenhan Yang's "Chen Tai Chi First Form" DVD: a demonstration of the complete form, a walk-through of the form accompanied by brief spoken descriptions, and a detailed breakdown of each movement and posture, including explanations of the martial applications of many of the movements. Chenhan Yang's teaching did not explicitly explain all of the details that are necessary for proper performance of the leaps and spins. I had to play the sections over and over again to figure out how the teacher was able to perform some of them. But I do think that this DVD is very good.

I took Chen lessons years ago and this was the form done world class

He moves too fast and not much explanation. I found better instructions on YouTube.

Very good video on Chen Tai Chi Cannon Fist with step-by-step instructions. Master Chenhan is a great instructor.

Well-explained, very clear dialogue, but carelessly and incorrectly subtitled in parts. The blurb states that each movement is explained but this is a lie! I bought this more for the applications so in this regard I have been deceived and ripped-off. The DVD shows the demonstrator performing the form twice and both from the front. Intelligence would have had a front view demo AND a rear view demo and that would have been extremely useful. The silk reeling appears on the Yilu DVD so why repeat it on the Erlu DVD. I’m going to request a full refund. I was equally unimpressed with the Yilu DVD and for the same reasons…but I will live with that. The Yilu DVD was put together far better. The two should have been marketed as a package thus avoiding pointless repetition and focussing upon the two forms bonding.

Well explained edition on the Chen old routine 2 Er Lu Cannon Fist form.Great emphasis on the Silk reeling aspect,and fa jin explosive energy release.A very complementive form to add to the Baji system.
