First impression is that it is well made and should be able to take some abuse. I didn't measure the thickness with a ruler, but it seems like it will be sufficient to do its job. The holes are perfect on both sides, so, maybe it was lazer or water cut. I The graphics are cool, although I must admit I'm not sure what it's supposed to be.So far, I'm pleased with it. If anything changes, I will update my review.

The only thing tricky was figuring out the front sprocket mounts on the inboard side of the crank & this chain retainer mounts on the outboard side. But it mounted easily & works as expected so far.

For the correct type of sprocket it probably works well. However description does not say you need a sprocket with holes about 0.342 inches to accept the bolts (Maybe larger) and spacers between sprocket and guard. My sprocket had only small screw holes that attached plastic covers with spacers on both sides of sprocket but no spacers on sprocket itself. Bolts apparently have spacers but without instructions am unsure how they work.

This is a decorative cover. It is really thin and would provide little protection to the sprocket if it was to hit or contact anything. See pic. Almost same thickness as a wall plug spade. If you buy, get a larger size. The 40-42T I bought is the exact same size as my 42T sprocket.Update: have used, hit many stumps and did not damage. So it’s better to have than nothing.

At one time, a repair person removed a plastic chain ring guard and said they could not find any chain new guard. I was not completely happy with them. I have rode with no guard. I ordered this because of a car accident happened that I was not at fault for. Now I have something I like again and it does fit perfectly.

I installed this chain guard on the inner side of the chainring in order to prevent the chain from derailing when the chain was on the 52 tooth cassette cog on me e bike. The chain offset is at its greatest cant when in granny gear on my 12 speed gear train. It worked some of the time, but not reliably. Turns out that the solution is to install a 2mm spacer ring between the hub and cassette adapter,which moves the cassette outboard just enough to reduce the offset sufficiently so that the chain stays on the chainring when the chain is on the largest cassette cog.

This is a great mountain bike product. Inexpensive and very nice looking. Awesome!

Fine for single sided guard but if you want to run guard on inside and out, it has no bevel for the chain to run through. Still good material will do the job
