they use 2 4V 300mAh Ni-MH batteries. As long as they are left in the charger when not in use, they last indefinitely. I have left them out of the charger for several hours at a time and they have not run down, either. I have spoken for an hour on the phones without the battery running down. If, however, I use the speaker, the amount of battery time is only about 30-45 minutes. I hope this helps.
