ENDORSEMENTS "This book is a conduit for students, teachers, and teacher educators -- a carefully guided path to making language learning not only possible, but meaningful and fun!" --Marjorie Hall Haley, PhD, Board of Directors of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), Director of Foreign Language Teacher Licensure, George Mason University "Professor Konyndyk has developed a foreign-language pedagogy that makes students' deserts bloom. Foreign-language instructors and special educators will find themselves grateful to her for this contribution. --Lynn E. Snyder, PhD, CCC-SLP, Professor Emerita and Former Director of the Center for Language and Learning, University of Colorado at Boulder "Though I was told for such a long time 'No, you can't,' you constantly were a voice saying 'Yes, you can and you will.' You not only helped show me that the world of language is one that is possible for me, but you also showed me the way that we . . . can have such a positive impact on the lives of others." --a personal note from one of Irene's own at-risk students ABOUT FOREIGN LANGUAGES FOR EVERYONE "This book is about how I learned to teach a second language to those who either have failed before or were not really given a chance to succeed. I wrote it to help others to be smart, productive teachers of foreign languages to students with learning disabilities. The book called me. My life journey prepared and inspired me to write it." --Irene Brouwer Konyndyk, from her preface Foreign Languages for Everyone is based on Professor Irene Brouwer Konyndyk's careful study and classroom experience teaching foreign languages effectively to students with learning disabilities. The goal of serving at-risk students became highly personal for Irene when she realized that her own daughter had a learning disability but could succeed academically with the right combination of multisensory learning experiences. This is a wonderfully practical and inspiring book loaded with practical tips and pedagogical insights for successfully teaching foreign languages to children, young people, high school and college students, and older adults who have difficulty learning a second language. TEACHING ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) This book is ideal for educators and volunteers who teach English as a second language (ESL). Review: Excellent material - This book covers material that I have rarely seen anywhere else, and I'm so thankful for it. The only disappointment I had is that the downloadable materials from her website appear to no longer be available. I would love to know if there is a way that others have been able to access these, or to contact the author for them. Review: Four Stars - Useful and informative.

A must have for any teacher
I am so happy I stumbled into Prof. Konyndyk website while doing some research for my courses. I then learned about this book and it is a precious resource for any teacher. Prof. K. is a truly dedicated teachers and we need more instructors who care like she does. The book is very easy to browse and study, down-to-earth advice solidly founded on years of experience and in-depth research. I highly recommended to anyone who wants to find some interesting ways to "vamp up" class time, tapping all different typologies of learners. Either if you are a brand-new teacher or an experienced one, you will find in this book a bountiful of advice, resources and further research inspiration.

Teaching Students with Learning Disabilities a Foreign Language
This is a great book for every foreign language teacher who has had a student that studied and studied and still "didn't get it." It explains some of the types of language learning disabilities, strategies for helping students with ADD, ADHD, and specific language learning disabilities such as dyslexia or auditory problems. The suggestions are very common sense to any one who has taught foreign languages, but focused specifically to enable these students with learning disabilities to have success in a foreign language class where they have typically experienced only frustration and failure. I wish I'd had this book 10 years ago.

Excellent, practical book
I am in the process of reading this book and find it to be very useful. As a foreign language teacher (French) the examples in the book are very practical and easy to put into practice. I have been teaching for 18 years and plan to use a lot of the suggestions and practices given. Thanks for writing this book!

How to use learning disabilities as an excuse to teach really old-school grammar
I went to the author's conference presentation, and rather than call it "Foreign Languages for Everyone," I would call it "How to use learning disabilities as an excuse to teach really old-school grammar." I don't know how ACTFL published this, because it goes against so much of modern language teaching.

Excellent book!
A professor of mine recommended this book to me and I immediately ordered it online. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like some ideas for how to teach foreign language to students with learning disorders.
