How secure are these? i have recently read of smart doorbells that send details of wi-fi passwords back to china. are these doing that i wonder.

These are different to smart doorbells in that they are not connected directly to the internet. I think what you may have seen are doorbells that have insecure passwords (like "password" or "admin") where a nearby attacker may be able to access your home network by getting in through the doorbell OR it could be that certain brands of cameras are relaying information back to manufacturers (i.e. Chinese manufacturers). I can't be sure as I don't own one of these plugs but if they don't connect to your router and instead communicate directly with your phone then you're fine. Ignore the other ignorami on here calling conspiracy theories, cyber attacks from China are a very real threat, but these plugs will be fine as long as they don't connect to your router.

I don't know how good the old plugs were but the plugs I ordered in 2022 are rubbish. I've got 2 faulty out of 4 so 50% fail rate after just few months. The plugs deliver power but don't switch on and off remotely anymore.

er....the app tells me to add local network permission...but the app has no option to add that. Is this app broken?!
