Anastasia (1956)

A Golden Oldie
The movie itself -- writing and direction -- is somewhat clunky, but well worth watching to see Ingrid Bergman and Yul Brynner in their prime. They both turn in great performances. Nice to see Helen Hayes, too, who, as always, gives a fine performance.

Great value
Love all three films, but that AI-looking cover art for FernGully is disturbing.Zak looks like an elf on a shelf.

The Best Version- Twilight Time Blu Ray
"Twilight Time deserves a reward for this lush, sharp, colorful, beautiful, excellent HD transfer. I have a DVD copy of this 20th-Century Fox gem, and it is adequate, but the story and people come to life like never before in this vivid and exquisite transfer from Twilight Time. I cannot heap enough praises on this Blu-ray. It is simply mesmerizing. Ingrid Bergman won her second of three Oscars for her 1956 portrayal of the mysterious and beautiful Anastasia. "The review above is an extract I took from a August 12, 2019 review by Roger Howerton. It says it all about the version created by Twilight Time studio. The pristine clarity, color saturation & sound quality are so much better than the original dvd studio release, or any other source out there. Yes, I knew this movie, & own dvd's from other studios. Yes I paid more for it because of the 2019 review, it is worth it.

Great cast
The combination of Ingrid Bergman and Yul Brynner, along with smaller roles played by some lesser known, but equally as talented actors keeps me watching every time. Of course, it helps that I’m intrigued by the story of the Romanoff family and the mysterious Anastasia.

Beautiful acting, but issues with sound quality
I'm really glad to have been able to watch this movie, as Yul Brynner and Ingrid Bergman are both fantastic in it. Unfortunately, the sound quality was uneven and annoying -- sometimes the speaking was very soft, so we had to turn the volume way up, and then it would get very loud and we'd have to quick turn the volume far down. Not the biggest issue in the world, and turning on subtitles helped some, but still not ideal.

Exquisite Blu-ray from Twilight Time
Ingrid Bergman won her second of three Oscars for her 1956 portrayal of the mysterious and beautiful Anastasia. And Twilight Time deserves a reward for this lush, sharp, colorful, beautiful, excellent HD transfer. I have a DVD copy of this 20th-Century Fox gem, and it is adequate, but the story and people come to life like never before in this vivid and exquisite transfer from Twilight Time. I cannot heap enough praises on this Blu-ray. It is simply mesmerizing. As for the film itself, the story of Anastasia will keep you interested throughout as you keep asking yourself the question: "Is she or isn't she?" The acting is superb---Brynner may be the least effective, simply because he acts the same as he did when he played the King of Siam, also in 1956---but Miss Bergman, Miss Helen Hayes, and the divine Martita Hunt (Miss Haversham in 1946's Great Expectations) are superb as Anastasia, the Dowager Empress and her lady in waiting. One element lacking in this film is action, and its absence reveals the script's stage origins, but the dialogue is sharp. (The dialect, however, of English with a Russian accent, namely from Akim Tamiroff and Sacha Pitoeff, was incomprehensible at times---which is no fault of the transfer, but of the actors themselves.)If you've seen this classic on DVD, re-live it on Blu-ray. You'll relish the experience.

Was She Real or Fake...
I have always been interested about what happened to the ruling family in Russia during the Revolution. There has always been rumors that some of the family survived the execution that took place. Many rumors that the Czar's daughter Anastasia & her brother survived circulated for a number of years. There have been many books & movies about this subject, but I have thought that this version was one of the best. The movie starred some of the top names such as Ingrid Bergman, Yul Brynner, and Helen Hayes. It was rumored that a woman was found who had been injured & had some memory loss. This injured person could not remember her name, so the medical staff called Anna Anderson. While under treatment it was said that she would tell about her family being held prisoner & being taken to a lower level of where they were being held & being shot. Anastasia had some health issues that only immediate family knew about. Rumors started circulating that Anna Anderson was the Czar's daughter Anastasia. This movie showed what possibly happen to this person who knew certain information that only living family members could know. I recommend this movie for people to watch & form your own opinion if Anna Anderson was Anastasia.names

Cinema Historical interest.
Arrived promptly and securely packaged.A classic dated feel and so interesting for film buffs and fans and the story was enthralling for decadessadly, the tragedy of horror and the brutal and malicious murder of the Romanov family cannot fail to shock and move peopleand those that made such spurious claims contemporaneously - we such vile people. Fortunately since DNA testing and the finding of the two missing skeletons has laid to rest as totally spurious such claims.

Doppiaggio in italiano:superbo.
