The Vintage Tea Party Book

Book arrived promptly and properly packaged. Examination revealed that the cover had damage in the form of deep scratches. They were noticeable by sight and by feeling them across the open part of the cover. It does not affect the use of the book but should have been disclosed since they are on the cover. I am happy with the book overall.

What a fantastic book. When you open the well packaged item and feel the weight and how well it’s bound, you’ll be so happy you purchased it. The content is fun just like the show and offers an array of how-tos. If you love their show like I do, this book is a must. I’m still blown away at how well it’s made and the heavy grade paper stock.

I had seen this book reviewed on a few blogs, and being a tea-lover and things of vintage nature, I decided to pick up my own copy.First, the setup is very simple, and effective. Each section has recipes (except the Style section), tips, and beautiful and whimsical illustrations and photographs. There are even a couple of D-I-Y's and invitation templates you can photocopy, in addition to a copy-able stencil of the Queen.The book is quite thick, with a ribbon bookmark attached and the cover and binding is very sturdy, and the pages are thick paper making tears a little less likely.Now, the author is British, so all the measurements are in Metric for the recipes, my only real qualm about the book is that it does not include the US conversions for the ingredients (but not a huge deal, just break out a conversion table or a calculator).I'm glad that I picked this book up, it's a very beautiful book that multitasks and will give you a few new and good ideas that you wouldn't have had otherwise.

I love this book. The illustrations are superb, the recipes delicious and the tips and text spark creativity. A delightful read as well as informational.

I like the illustrations and the anecdotes. I mostly bought the book for the recipes and how to set up tea parties. The head scarf I'm willing to try but not the apron. Those sections are fun additions if you are not into vintage dress. Overall I really enjoyed this book.

What can I say. Love love this book. Get it quick before people Jack up the prices on this. It is more than just recipes that are in the book.

We started watching Escape to the Chateau after I discovered it by chance on PBS. It’s wonderful fun and my daughter-in-law and teen both enjoy it especially. This book and another which Angel wrote containing more crafts for hosting are enjoyed by them both.

Purchased as a birthday gift. Book was in almost new condition, and I was very pleased with book.

My comments have nothing to do with the service I have received from the seller however, I am so disappointed with the book. It is book is boring, it offers nothing of great interest; "how to put a headscarf on" - and how to make a sandwich of cream cheese and cucumber. Unfortunately, things have got worse for me: I also sent for the "red leather covered book" PLEASE don't bother. As lovely as Angel Strawbridge seems, her books are DULL.

I am a big fan of vintage and love Angel from Escape to the Chateau. It's a great book as it gives you ideas on how to display items. Wonderful, easy to follow recipes and some great ideas for alcohol tea! The book is beautifully presented with lots of gorgeous photos and pictures. Plus, Angel has even done invitations that you can copy and use yourself. So much is copyrighted these days that this in itself is a lovely gesture. Great tips on hair and makeup. But don't forget it is all about vintage. Love it, love it, love it.

This is a wonderful picture book for browsing as well as a template for delicious, easy to follow recipes with an imaginative twist. Our Reader’s Circle have just used the 'Afternoon’ section of the book as a manual for a celebratory Tea Party on the occasion of the Queen’s ninetieth birthday. We included the pages Angel provided for invitations and activities, not forgetting her final section on ‘Style’. So our food was well presented and delicious and our butterfly wall looked just lovely.The recipes Angel has provided in this book are a combination of old favourites and fresh innovations, all with clear instructions and serving suggestions with a retro theme. In fact, this is one of the joys of the book with its full-page colour photographs of food suitably ‘staged’ amongst vintage plates, cutlery, old china and other accessories. Also worth mention are the unique, eccentric line drawings and coloured illustrations by the artist (Adele?). These add a lot to the thematic quality of the work . . . and they are funny!My favourite savory recipe was for an easy ‘Cream Cheese & Cucumber Hearts’ (P110) and my favourite sweet dessert was ‘Cherry & Dark Chocolate Trifle Shots (P173), but it was hard to choose. And making a revival on my everyday lunch menu are Angel’s ideas for Coddled Eggs (who of my age doesn’t have unloved egg coddlers at the back of their china cupboard?).Finally, I would like to commend Angel for her candid and charming foreword to the book where she introduces readers to her background and family. I almost feel that I actually know this person and I will treasure her book and return to it again and again.

I LOVE this book, she has put everything but the kitchen sink in it !!! Who would guess you would have tips for your hair and outfit for a tea party, she is so nuts I LOVE HER. Some people just don't get her. She likes everything to be complete, down to your last hair strand. It is always interesting to see what she will include. It is a joy to open the book and read her ideas. Love it.

As a family, we are addicted to Escape to the Chateau so this was a must have for our daughter this Christmas. Such a lot of thought and ingenuity has gone into the ideas and recipes. We now have a shopping list to hit the car boots and vintage shops with! Very much hoping Angel will write an interiors/ design book next to inspire us even further.
