NOT STAINLESS STEEL do not buy
Do not buy this if you want a stainless steel ruler. Both the 6 inch and 12 inch models stick to a magnet like it's pure steel. That's because it is not stainless steel. This will charge you twice the cost of an identical steel ruler by falsely stating it is stainless. In America this is called false advertising perhaps Japan calls it salesmanship?Same as saying to Congress, I don't have any classified emails on my illegal personal server.

Another quality tool from Shinwa
I have several Shinwa tools that were made in Japan and all are excellent quality. The 6" 4R steel rule is identical to my 12" 4R steel rule by Shinwa other than the size. This one measures exactly 3/4" wide by 6" long. I compared it to my Starrett 6" and 12" combination square steel rules and my Shinwa 12" 4R steel rule and the markings are accurate. The zero glare satin chrome finish does a great job at reducing the glare but it's not quite as good as my Starrett rules. However, I've been using the 12" Shinwa rule for a few years almost daily and have no complaints with the finish. If it bothered me I would have opted for the Starrett or perhaps the Mitutoyo, but both of those appear to have only one set of numbers reading one direction on each side, and I prefer to have them reading both directions on each side. Mitutoyo shows a picture of each but I didn't want to take the risk. For the price I believe this is the better buy over the more expensive competitors. One last thing, the Shinwa does attract fingerprints but they wipe off easily and honestly don't bother me that much. My Starrett rules do not have that problem. Again, if someone is concerned with those issues then they can pay $25 to $30 for the Starrett. I will say though that both of the rules in my Starrett 6" and 12" combination squares are not perfectly flat on one side, whereas both of my Shinwa rules are absolutely perfectly flat. I checked all on my cast iron table saw and jointer bed.

Very accurate rulers. Have 6 and 12 inch rules
Very accurate. Compared to my setup blocks, it's dead on accurate. Wish the cheap plastic case didn't have those stickers on it. I say get a few of these but if using on a project, compare to your tape measure because your tape measure may not be accurate and you will be working with apples and oranges with measuring. Fast Cap's tapes agree with these so store all you other tapes for emergency and get some Fast Cap tapes. I like the flat one with no standout but I'm going to get one that has standout and take my Milwaukee tapes and hide them. Lol! Fast Cap tapes also have a surface to write dimensions and a built in presission pencil sharpener. The flat back tape us only for outside dimensions. Good luck!

Great little ruler
This is a great little ruler! I've only had this thing for a few days so I can't yet say how durable it is but it appears well made. It has a non-reflective finish which makes it easy to read in any light, the scale has measurement graduations running in both directions, and on both sides which makes it even easier to read. This is already my go to ruler in the shop!

Superb quality, almost as nice as Starrett
I'm a professional machinist & most of my measuring tools are made made by the L. S. Starrett company. Starrett tools are made in the USA & represent the gold standard in precision measurement. Price is about $22.I'd rate the Shinwa at 95% of the quality of Starrett for half the cost. I expected a good tool since it's made in Japan but it's hard to believe how nice this is for the money.I just ordered another one.

High Quality
There is almost nothing to complain about, these are high accuracy, top quality machinist rulers. The only even minor issue is that the finish is so fine that it is a little shiny, I prefer a more matte finish for reading it in bright lighting, but that is really minor.
