I love the art in this book. The stories are interesting. Any mermaid lover should pick up a copy.

Gave this as a birthday gift. She loves it. It is fun to examine maps to learn more about each place the merfolk come from. The recipient can read it with an adult to assist with as needed. The illustrations are beautiful. A lot to learn for both adult and child. Recommend this book.

My granddaughter loves mermaids & has a mermaid tail. She dresses up as a mermaid for a pirate festival during the summer. So she will love this book.

This book includes wonderful tales of mermaids around the globe and is beautifully illustrated. I gave it to an 8 year old girl as a gift- mermaid dreamer. This book is also great for adults!

Do you or someone you know love to hear stories of far away places and adventures? This book takes the reader to the continents of North and South American, Oceania, Africa, Europe, Asia and to more than 35 different countries. While there are some similarities in the stories there are many variations. Tales from Northern Spain tell of the Lamia, who have duck like feet. If given a present that is to their liking they might finish a task for the giver while they sleep. In Japanese folklore it is said that if one eats the flesh of the Ningyo, a human fish, they will live forever. However if one is caught fishermen will through them back to avoid misfortune. In addition to tales of mermaids from across the world this book has a 2 page spread about Mermaid homes and others about the history of mermaids, the magic of Mermaids, sightings and creatures that have been mistaken for mermaids. I recommend this 48 page book, with illustrations on every page, for elementary aged students who would like to learn more about mermaids across the world. It would be great as a stand alone book or as a jumping off point for further research.

I absolutely love this Mermaid "Atlas"! I preordered it to ensure I got my hands on one. I love mermaids, have done ever since I can remember and now, at 23, my love/obsession for them still hasn't waned - in fact it's grown. I'm forever collecting books on mermaids, fairies and other magical mysterious creatures and spirits. I love it and love how each continent is beautifully illustrated with the mermaids/water spirits dotted on the map in their countries of origin. One of my favourites is Melusine, (France), half fairy, half human, the daughter of a water fairy and a human king - but she's also a mermaid and transforms into her latter form on Saturdays. My other favourites include the Selkie, Sedna, Mami Wata, the Ningyo, Lasiren and the Little Mermaid of course. I love how much time and effort has been put in and I love it!

This book is absolutely gorgeous and has become a firm favourite in our house. Beautiful way to explore the world!
