InterestingRead on the Lives and Accomplishments of Wilbur and Orville Wright
I was surprised how interesting this book turned out to be. I am from North Carolina and thought I knew a lot about the Wright Brothers. I have been to the Kitty Hawk Museum and have seen first hand the site of their first flights. When I started the book, I learned about their interesting family history and how the brothers had always seemed like twins even though Wilbur was four years older. The book describes their growing up year and details their growing interest in flight and how they came to build the first airplane after several years of prototype. I was surprised that they rewrote all prior information because it had all be calculated incorrectly. This book personalizes Wilbur and Orville Wright and describes the close family relationship they had with their father and sister. It also tells the history after their first successful flight and how they continued to experiment and develop new and better airplanes. There are great pictures and diagrams from the original pictures taken by the Wright brothers and their journals. This was an excellent read. It was written in a way that even I could understand much of early aeronautics.

Great read aloud for the motivated child
After reading a children's book on the wright brothers which captivated my 7/8 year old, I got several other books and this one was the best. We are reading it now. It's VERY well done. Easily understandable and has more pictures and diagrams than I could have imagined. The chapter divisions are also perfectly suited to night by night sessions of reading. While this is really interesting for adults, it's possible to read this out loud / read together for the curious child that is captivated by the Wright brothers story. (I'd say age 8 would be earliest with self reading being possible a year or two later).

For middle schoolers. But Very good.
Actually a very good book on the fundamentals of the discovery process that the Wright's went through to determine what it would require to create powered flight.Geared to the inquisitive middle schooler grades 6 to 10. Also, has many good photographs. My nephew read this book and made a replica copy of the Wright brothers Wind Tunnel and recreated a series of wing shapes and lift ratios charts. He entered this at a middle school Science Fair. That nephew is now in medical school.

Buy it
Great photos and story! History matters-especially the Wrights. Buy it for your kids. You’ll learn a lot too.

To me it read like a more expansive and in-depth version of "The Wright Brothers Photographs: Wilbur and Orville Wright's Original and Extraordinary Images Documenting the Birth of Flight." I really enjoyed that book and Russell Freedman's book to be equally as intriguing.Take into consideration it is a Newberry Honor Book, meaning that it's aimed at a younger, juvenile level reader. Definitely reader friendly, but not for someone looking for complex, hard to understand writing.

great history book for kids
non-fiction can be as good as fiction with the right writer. this book hits the target head on. Quote from my son: "why can't schoolbooks lay out history in a fun way? this book is so fun to read and my social studies book in school is so boring!"

wonderful pictures, great text
I did buy this for our son, but it has more pictures than any other Wright brothers book so I have been enjoying it as well. It doesn't end in 1903 with their first flyer like a lot of other books do. Excellent!

Fantastic book on aviation
Fantastic book for aviation enthusiast's. Good photographic pictures by Wright brothers but in the era of digital HD media the photo prints may be improved.
