How can i know if arc will work out of the box?

I'm sure that there are variables related to each manufacturer's products, but I use an ARC set-up through my Sony soundbar, and these specific cables worked right out of the box. Easy breezy.

Connected the cables from my optoma uhd50 4k projector to my apple tv 4k. it’s only a 5 meter cable and i still get signal loss? is it defective?

If you are using a 100 foot HDMI cable to run just 5 m what are you doing with the excess cable? Make sure The input end is going to the Apple TV and the output end is going through the projector. The 100 foot HDMI cable has an amplifier in the input end. Also make sure there are no sharp bins anywhere in the cable. It is glass and can easily break if there are sharp beings.

How do i set this up with 2 hdmi sources and 1 cord?

Need to connect 2 sources to “HDMI switch” and then connect one HDMI cord to the device you are wanting to connect the sources to ..

Can this be connected from direct tv receiver to marantz avr which has output via copper hdmi to projector?

Yes.. just make sure you attach the end of the HDMI cable marked "source'' to your Direct TV receiver (HDMI output) and the end marked "display" to your HDMI (in) on the Marantz avr. Note however that I have used a standard HDMI cable (the $5 variety) and on such a short run they work fine.
