Are the shelves made from 600 denier polyester?

We have carefully selected the fabric. It is a high quality fabric that is not only durable but also does not smell. The organizer is made to store heavy books. The fabric has been tested confirming that it is strong and durable.

Does it come with a shelf to hang it on? My childs locker does not have a shelf to hang the organizer on and I haven’t been able to find one

No it doesn't come with a shelf. Most standard lockers have a built in shelf about 6 inches from the top of the locker to hang it on. Without that I can't see any other way to use this, because even if you found a shelf to use there would be no sturdy way to attach it to the locker so that is was stable enough to hang this while full of books, folders, etc.

Does this work in a closet?

You can hang the organizer in a closet. It works well as a set of shelfs in narrow spaces and some of our customers find it very helpful in their narrow closets. At the back of each shelf the organizer has an elastic which prevents various size books from falling out. You can also store small things in side pockets that are on both sides of the organizer.
