Product does not work where you can trust burning E-proms and vendor gives a run around
I purchased this GX-4w4 late last year as to the marketing claims of what it will doI did not get a chance to use it for 1 month after it finally got itFirst time using it to burn code into a 128K E-prom would not work correctlyTook like 4 calls to the vendor in Seattle Wash to answer the phoneGuy in support is hard to understand on phone as seems he maybe from ChinaI talked also to some gal and also seems like from ChinaI was given a run around as what the problem is delaying me to get my product/serviceto my customers in chasing this problem downSupport never got the problem fixed and finally on some internet forum a person who knowthe product said their was a bug in a devices.txt as to settings for that E-prom typeThat worked but then month later I needed to burn a 512K eprom and the program was random in their GQ P/C software and their programmerSometimes would say the E-prom was not blank even though E-proms are newThen get out of their software and using same E-prom then says it is blankThen go to write the bin file contents to a 512K E-prom and had their programmer verify the burn and says OK but in testing the new E-prom the contents failedI tried this on 5 other new 512K Eproms and get same failureI then have to play the game in multi phone calls to get vendor to answer the phoneand then told to write down the bin file that was loaded into GQ the checksum and then burn the codeinto the new eprom and then have it do a verify to find that checksum does not match the bin code loaded into GQFor one the verify then should have said the compares failed but doe notThen I am told to change the default burn speed to a slower rateOut of burning 6 512K Eproms, their product failed 4 timesI have owned a Chipmax burner for over 20 years and not once did that fail using the same brand and type of E-proms until finally that programmer broke.Yet here is a new programmer and fails all the timeSo again call support for GQ and told until I spend the money and time away from my business and customers and their income is go ship bad one back first to verify I am not trying to con them, then wait until another unit is finally shipped to meRather they send me a new programmer with a RMA and they include a shipping box and a shipped paid forms and get me back to meeting my customer needs the answer was I PAY again for another one, that would ship in 3 days time and then somehow get them to pay me for the bad unitDue to their run around I cannot return to Amazon as they only allow that for 30 days since the order was placed and clearly with the run around times that is out of the pictureTheir support is lousy, Amazon should pull them from doing any business with Amazon customers and I am out $110 ! for a product that cannot trust to do with it's claims are and chance then the paying customer of mine end up getting E-proms with code burned in that is faulty and bad reflecting to my business !and in fact badly burned in code could cause damage and in this case vehicle engine calibrations :-(Further Update :After calling McuMall's so called support long distance phone over different time of work days never getting anyone to answer the phone and leaving voice mail they simply ignore returning calls to customers who have their failing products corrected.Same with emails sent to their support email address. a few time someone replied and I told them to send me a new unit as mine was only about 1 year old and they did nothing. In testing I found one failure is the USB device driver they use for this GQ 4x4 they never tested with Microsoft and have certified so when using their product on Windows XP their driver keeps trying to download via Internet some .CAB file but Microsoft to protect the P/C fails with a event 11 as being non certifiedOther failure I tested with 2 desktops, and 4 laptops using Windows XP, V 7 and V 8.1In all cases on random basis while in process of inserting a 28 pin E-prom the GQ 4x4 crashes the USB port, causing the P/C to beep and in 1 P/C that backfeeding from their product into USB port of P/C ruined the USB I/C chip making that P/C useless for any USB connectionsMcuCall I assume cares less the American customers buying product from Amazon cannot go after them being they are in Canada so just ignores the failures to customer base. They have a support Internet forum and I posted like 20 posts with traps of failure points and they do not reply there eitherGuess one recourse is either Amazon drops they vendor of all products they sell here or I, my business and my customer base stops all buying on Amazon until this vendor is removed so they cannot do this to other Amazon customers

Works great with old Arcade and Vintage Computer EPROMs
This is the first USB-based programmer that I've owned that will deal properly with older arcade and vintage computer EPROMS. To date I've tested with the following and had success with each. I was previously using the "other" very common USB programmer available (the miniPro) which wouldn't touch most of these. Some of these chips required an additional (not supplied) external power adapter, but I was able to flash them without. I did get two failures which I can't blame on the unit because I didn't have a power adapter handy.Programming with the GQ-4x4Chip Label Burner Setting Size Result NotesTMS2764JL-25 TMS2764 64kbit (8K) GOOD 28 pini D2716 Intel D2716 16kbit (2K) GOOD 24 pin, lots and lots of these aroundi D2764 Intel D2764 64kbit (8K) GOOD 28 pinTMS2516-45JL TMS2516 16kbit (2K) GOOD 24 pinMBM2732A MBM2732A 32kbit (4K) GOOD FujitsuW27E257-12 W27E257 512kbit (64K) GOOD Supports EraseM8522/JM2532E TMS2532JL 32kbit (4K) GOOD M2716FI SGS M2716 16kbit GOODWould be an easy five star if they included the "sometimes required" power adapter. I was going to rate it four because of that, but will stick with 5.

I am impressed
I owned a data i/o 29b that the display stopped working so I was looking for a new programmer. I when I saw this one on amazon I said what the heck. I bought it and when it arrived is took a little figuring out how to install it. No manual and the paper included was a little confusing how to install and in what order. After I figured out the install the programmer worked like a champ. I am using it to restore an old S-100 bus computer and I needed to program a 2716 with the updated rom monitor. It was very smooth. It programmed very fast as was able to read preprogramed 2716 parts I had. All in all I am very pleased with it. Lets see how long it works. so far every is great.

really good programmer at a reasonable price
i needed a programmer that could do 2716 PROMS and i wanted to be able to do bigger ones in the same family, like 2732, 2764, etc. this programmer had really good write-ups, so i figured i'd give it a shot. it was a great value and works really well. the only catch is that the documentation is a little shaky, but that was to be expected. the documentation for just about everything now is a less than spectacular.i would recommend this to anyone looking for a reasonably priced PROM programmer. just remember to check if the devices you want to program are on the list for the programmer before you buy it.

I use with some older EPROMs
Does the business. I use it for TMS 2516s and Intel 2716s. There is one bug - on some systems, it will not work if the ethernet is connected when the app starts up. If the app window disappears on you, try unplugging the ethernet and starting the app, then plugging the ethernet back in. Crazy, but, that's what it does. The vendor knows about the bug, no fix yet. Other than that, works great.
