OEMTOOLS 24434 Ford Valve Spring Compressor for 1991-2004 2-Valve Engines

Great tool had one of the cheap ones, it did not work at all... frustrated myself and ordered a quality tool .... It worked instantly...do yourself a favor don't buy cheap tools, spend the money buy quality tools.

Normally I don’t write reviews one, I forget and one and two I always get pulled in a different direction. This one is different. I just used this tool on my 2010 f150, after using some other no name eBay kits. I struggled with those other tools even so far as modifying them to no avail. Literally 15 min with the tool in my hand I had my roller followers that I needed out. I’ve used OEM tools before as far as parts store rentals and have been impressed with them all. This one is a must buy for any timing job that’s it’s needed on.

Worked well for my 2005 F150 5.4l 3v timing job. I did 28 follows with this ( I think it was 4 removals then all 24 installs). It does have a bit of a learning curve as i had to reposition a bit at the start but by the end I was knocking them out. Like others stated the threads are very difficult to get started, I did two things to solve for this: 1 - drill into the cap (the part you twist). Be careful and don't drill through it but you want the stem to be able to go farther in. 2 - when you put the forks under the camshaft youre supposed to push them all the way forward so its pushed up against the cam. I couldn't get the threads started if it was pushed up against the cam but if I backed it off just a bit it raises the forks enough to get things started. I never had issues with the forks bending either.

This tool finally did the trick! After purchasing and returning 2 other cheaper versions (only about half the price of this one) this one works perfectly without any modifications on my 2010 F150 5.4L 3V engine. Was able to easily remove and replace the roller followers with ease. One thing to keep in mind while compressing the springs (and not a fault of the too) is to keep some finger pressure on the valve stem so the keepers don't pop out while compressing. That would make for a really bad day if the valve dropped into the cylinder!!! Thanks OEM Tools for a great product!

There's definitely some serious quality assurance issue going on with the factory that's pushing out this product. The 5.4 3V variant MAY require you to grind the tip of the piece that goes on top of the valve spring, but you'll have to make absofreakinglutely sure that the tip itself is screwed in all the way before condemning the tool to the grinder. Here's what I want you to do, go ahead and absolutely buy this tool BUT keep a stone grinder bit handy that you can use with your drill. You can easily buy one of those bits at Wally world for just a couple bucks. If you find this to be too much of a hassle to make this tool work, then you seriously shouldn't be wrenching on cars. Literally took me 10 secs to grind the tip. I recommend this product. It's super sturdy.

I have replaced all the valve seals on my 4.6 (with the engine out) and it was easish. Getting used to the 2 piece design wasn't bad. It took me doing 2 valves to get used to it and the hang of it. The fact that the tool is slanted and NOT at a 90-degree bend like the OTC is a godsend. Really, I ordered the OEM and OTC and the OTC hit the top of the camshaft cage and marred the metal everytime I went to depress the spring. What a joke!! I threw it back into the box and away it went. This one didn't damage anything and was easy enough to use. I was able to do it by myself by keeping pry bar between my legs so it didn't shoot up. NOTE: Be careful and make sure the tool is seated properly on the valve spring cap or not, if it's a little cockeyed, it will loose grip and spring back and throw everything everywhere. This happened to me 3 times and almost lost a few keepers but luckily didn't. Regardless of the negative, IT IS HANDS DOWN BETTER THAN THE OTC. The material is the same quality folks! Good luck.

I was looking to buy the OTC tool for this after reading how so many others broke this tool while using. However there were enough positive reviews that I decided to try and save some money so I took a chance on this brand of tool. I am very glad that I did. After removing and installing the roller followers 30 times (6 removal and 24 install) you learn what feels correct and what doesn't. Above all, be patient! This is a tedious process. Be careful to have the tool positioned correctly on the valve spring and in the correct pocket of the cylinder head for the valve spring to be pushed down. It is extremely easy for the tool to catch on the side of a cylinder head bolt boss and hang up. If you keep tightening it, this is when I think these tools can break. When positioned correctly, the amount of twisting force you put on the knob will feel the same for all valves. It if feels tight, then stop and figure out where it is hanging up. An inspection mirror will be extremely helpful to make sure the follower is put back in the proper position. Three times during this process, I didn't have the follower in the correct position and released the valve spring only to discover that I had to do it again on that valve to get the follower in the correct place. Other than that, don't hesitate to buy this tool over the other more expensive brand. It works!

Worked perfectly for my mustang. Made the job of changing valve stem seals a breeze.

I haven’t used it for the project ahead, but looks solid and clean no burrs. I will rewrite a new review once I use for the project. I finally got around to using this tool and it work well on my 2010 f150 5.4 3V, it was a little tricky to get used to it but after doing a few valves it got easier. Great tool to have available.

This tool was relatively easy to use and the fork was strong enough to push down the valves without bending so long as you centered the tool correctly. This spring compressor did a great job with my 5.4l 3v.
