The Puzzle Universe: A History of Mathematics in 315 Puzzles

I bought this for my husband who is a total math nerd and he loves it so far!

My kids and I love this book except for some brain teasers that aren’t maths at all and aren’t suitable for children. Puzzle 2 shown in the photos is an example. My 12 year old daughter totally didn’t get it. I really wish I didn’t have to explain to her that maybe the author of this book wanted to date Julia Roberts.

Calling all mathematicians! I got this book for my youngest son, whose birthday is coming up next month. I had sent a copy to my sister a while ago and her husband (a math professor) commandeered it. I don't do math, but I opened the book at random and solved one puzzle (#16, perhaps) in my head, then stopped so I wouldn't break my streak! The book contains puzzles of all sorts - diagrams, word puzzles, plays on words, diagrams, and other things I didn't even recognize. If puzzles relax or fascinate you, get this book at once!

The book is quite nice as an overview of history of mathematical puzzle especially it is colour printed!Too bad my copy is slightly damaged and stained at the back cover. (Doesn’t impact the readability but as the book is of 40USD I’d expect the packaging has better protection for it)

This amazing collection of all kinds of puzzles is a great coffee table book for dipping in and out perusing. It made and excellent gift for my husband and has entertained many guests.

I really enjoyed the book and would recommend it.

I expected a bit more based on other reviews. It's ok as a quick read but not very insightful.

This book is a must have for every math educator and puzzle enthusiast.That's it. That's the message.

Title of the book is possibly not a great description of the book: It’s actually a book full of puzzles. I have given this as a present. The recipient says that the puzzles are extremely difficult but very enjoyable indeed: a great challenge. Book is huge and do v good value. A great gift.
