Must Know High School Basic French

Interesting and exactly what you'd need "In Real Life"
I recently decided to brush up on my French, hoping to travel in retirement. The adult books I found were simply too advanced, and way too much work for the time I have available. This book is exactly what I need. It starts at the beginning, and contains the perfect amount of information: I’m certain I’m filling in the most critical missing gaps, yet it isn’t overwhelming, which means I’m able to make quick progress (which I need to keep my motivation up). It’s got “IRL” (“In Real Life”) sidebars, which give a lot of interesting information that people from this country wouldn’t know about France and French. That attitude is obvious throughout: the conversations have phrases and vocabulary I’m certain I could actually use. The emphasis throughout is on presenting the vocabulary and grammatical information that you’re most likely to need, in a thorough, well-paced way.The exercises are just right: again, enough to test what I just learned, but not so much as to be overwhelming. For someone trying to learn on their own, it’s a huge bonus having the answers in the back of the book, the audio recordings and the flashcards.I know this was intended to be a school textbook (and how I wish I’d had this instead of what I had!) – but it’s also fabulous for someone who wants a painless, interesting way to get back up to speed on their own.Great book!

Great auxiliary to aural program
I'm enjoying this much better than some actual highschool textbooks I bought. Not a picturebook, informative text like a book should be and I find it quite helpful for self study. My copy from San Diego Book Exchange was like new.

Helpful but...
The book is helpful but without cd's it is difficult to pronounce words correctly. For example, the French language has a number words that require a nasal pronunciation. It is difficult without a cd or someone who speaks French fluently.

Simple, clear explanations make for a great learning tool!
This book is fantastic! I teach high school French and often see students struggle with concepts. This book gives very simple and clear explanations. Plus it has a digital component as well. I'll definitely be recommending it to my students!

Great book
I really like this book to review basic French and to dive a little into the more complicated parts (imperative, passé compose). The culture pieces are helpful as well.

Broken Application
The application they advertise for the this book is entirely broken and has been broken for months. The book is alright but it's not very honest to sell a book offering a companion app and have it not work at all. I reached out to their customer service and they provided no solution or timeline for when the app would be functional.
