Bandai Hobby Star Wars 1/12 Plastic Model BB-8 & R2-D2 "Star Wars"

This is my first time using a modeling kit, so this was a new experience for me. First of all the shipping was much slower than Prime, but it still arrived a lot sooner than the estimated shipping date. I received the item about 2 week after ordering, and I could tell it was sent from Japan so the slow shipping makes sense. The kit comes with instructions in Japanese only, so I had to work off of pictures only. This can be tricky at times, especially because the modeling kit comes with options that you don't necessarily have to do (like using the arms or weapons that R2D2 and BB8 comes with). The kit comes with both stickers and water-decals. Both are relatively easy to apply, and I would suggest using whichever kind you feel more comfortable with. BB8 is definitely made from a higher quality plastic than R2D2, and I think that's because R2D2 is a re-release from the previous kits. The plastic that R2D2 is made of shows a little more flaws (where you snipped the plastic). That said, both models look great after assembly. Some of the pieces of R2D2 didn't stay on very well (like the blue pieces on the top of its head), so I had to use glue for a couple of pieces. Some stickers are very very small, but it is worth the time because it makes a difference including them onto the model. The whole building process took about 4-5 hours. The size of the final product is relatively small (BB8: 2 inches R2D2: 4 inches). I would say this is for ages 13+, as it requires a lot of patience.

It has been a long time since I have assembled a model kit. Especially a "Snap Tight" style of model. I am highly impressed with the quality of this model kit. Even though the directions were in Japanese (I think) I could still follow the very well detailed step by step instructions. Every piece fit perfectly and the fit was tight and strong. I purchased some model glue just in case and I did not even use it! I opted to leave BB-8 as is since I already have a "dirty" version of him with sand and grime. I did paint R2-D2 with a mud scheme to represent him emerging from the swamp in ESB. The kit came with both types of decals, self adhesive and water decals. For the very small decals I used paint rather than mess with tweezers and patience. I am highly impressed with the quality of this model and the other kits available are on my list for future purchases.

Bandai makes the best model kits, extremely detailed and accurate! Except for one of the little hoses/cables on R2D2s leg, I was 99% successful in assembling him. I have fat fingers and this is VERY fine detailed work, but that's my problem not Bandai's problem. I might email Bandai and find out about how to get a replacement part. The little hose broke when I accidentally bumped it after it was already attached.

I like the attention to detail that they both have! Also very fun to put it together yourself!

OK, I just received this model kit from Amazon. It took me about 2.5hrs to assemble the R2 model, and the R2 model is very nice, and I highly recommend it overall. I have not put the water decals on it, and I know this process is very difficult & usually never easy. I was not a big model builder as a kid, and I ordered this by mistake, thinking it was all assembled. My first model since I was about 10, but it a very good quality model, excellent detail, and I'm very happy with the R2 model at this time. No glue required here, but I did have about 4 small pieces that I felt I had to glue, which would fall out/off when I moved the little bugger around to work on it... Nice model kit.

The figures are very detailed. The paint job is pretty good compared to some other model kits as in it doesnt really need painting if you want to leave it like it is. I like the little arms that came both figures. My first bandai model kit so I had to order a cutter before I could start building it. Make sure you have all the necessary items you need. It makes things faster. The experience is different from just buying a pre-assembled pre painted figure because you actually assemble this. I liked the idea of assembling my model and the option to paint it if I want. I would have liked them to be a bit bigger but I already knew how small they were when I got them.

Model kit looks good, many parts molded in color. Look forward to relaxing and just doing something for fun. May try to make both remote control for even more fun. Glad I bought kit. Box arrived a little banged up but since planning to build and not collect was not an issue at price and free shipping. Instructions are in Japaneses but images are pretty self explanatory. Not sure but I believe some kits in other countries are not sealed with clear plastic so contents can be checked before buying. Kit box arrived without plastic but all parts where included and nothing broken. Each plastic tree was sealed and easy to verify contents with instruction sheet. Hope information helps.

This kit is the example that should be used for all model kits. Even if you don't care about these subjects, build this kit. It will change your world. I used glue on some of the parts, but it wasn't necessary. There are sprues with multiple color parts on them. One sprue had clear parts as well as orange and white parts. blew my mind.. get one and build it.

組んだだけでも満足するキットです。とても良くできています。ただ、作業アームを出すギミックがあるので開閉部はポロポロします。使わないなら接着してしまえばいいだけですが。しばらくつや消しだけ吹いて飾っていましたが、シルバー部分を塗装してMrウェザリングカラーとウェザリングマスターで汚しました。汚し過ぎでも劇中っぽくて絵になります。その際、R2-D2の足の配線が折れてしまったので、代わりに真鍮線0.8mmにしました。かえってメカっぽくなって良かったです。

These kits are awesome, but I got mine without paying attention, aiming for the kids. It's for 30+ kids only. 😊 Got new action figures for them, and I'm keeping these.

Who doesn't love R2 and BB8! Typical excellent Bandai quality. Both went together great and look wonderful. The stickers/decals for BB8 are little finicky to work with because of the size but not impossible. While R2 stands fine, the stand for BB8 is a little shallow and he easily pops out of it. I understand the choice to make the stand so shallow (attempting to hide as much as possible) so it doesn't bother me, you just have to be careful moving BB8.
