Should be called the "Virtue Signaler's Almanac."
So glad I bought a used version of this book and didn't pay full freight for this book. EVERY "contribution" to the so-called almanac is a politically correct diatribe. I live in an area that has real farmers and my wife and I are converting our 40 acres into a sustainable farm with as minimal negative impact to our land and surroundings. Nothing... and I repeat... nothing... in this book would be helpful to anyone looking to live a sustainable and lifestyle. All of the articles have a heavy-handed lecturing feel because of their sanctimonious word choice and political underpinnings. After reading all of the politically correct diatribes in the book I walked away with the following thought: if any of these people truly had to provide ALL things for themselves in the "virtuous" manner outlined in the book, they would either starve, freeze, or die. Funny how virtue signalers live in a cocoon that denies that everyone around them... wood suppliers, farmers, ranchers, etc... actually protect them from suffering the consequences of their clueless decision-making. I can, without reservation, urge buyers NOT to buy this book.If you want to live a more sustainable lifestyle with as limited impact as possible, simply watch Youtube videos of ACTUAL homesteaders who can share the decisions they made... right and wrong... and you can decide for yourself how you can build on the knowledge they provide. At least I have something I can start a fire with, though:)
