Zoom H4n Handy Portable Digital Recorder Video Training Manual Tutorial

All the info can be found in the user manual for this reason I gave it a four star. So if you are one who likes to save, then by all means go ahead read the little book. If you learn by watching and seeing people show, then this is for you. The guy goes over every menu and shows you some settings. It makes learning the ZOOM H4n an hour project or it you know exactly what you a going to do with it, then it is more like a 10 to 15 minute project. For example I knew I wanted to do voice overs, so all the instrument stuff did not pertain to me. But he does show you how one person can do an entire song; drums, guitar, voice, etc and bounce it down to one track all on the ZOOM. Or record separate tracks to a computer.

I recently bought the Zoom H4n. This device really is a studio in your palm. It is amazingly simple, yet amazing in its capabilities. I suppose someone could read the manual in 6 or 8 hours and learn how to use it, but in truth the manual is not really all that good. It mostly covers what keystrokes to use, but it could take someone a year just to discover all the useful things this super-studio in a box will do. I chose the easy route, and bought this excellent instructional DVD.The only thing not covered in this DVD is how to turn the device on. Once you get past that, the instructor takes you thru simple field stereo recording using the onboard mics, adding external mics, 4 channel recording, Multi-Track Recording and more. He covers using the special effects built into the H4N, and tools like the Metronome, Tuner, Karaoke maker, and everything else. He covers multi-track dubbing and even shows you how to insert partial edits into a track. You learn how to manage the various files, and how to use the H4N as a front end for a PC-based DAW. I honestly do not believe he missed a single feature in this tutorial, and covers it all in two fairly interesting hours. He also brings some of his considerable real-world recording experience to the DVD in an understandable way. After watching the DVD, any serious musician will be ready to record a pro-quality CD using just the H4N and maybe a couple of external mics.I am guessing that this DVD saved me anywhere from 30 to 100 hours of learning time, and let me be immediately productive and professional using the H4N at my first attempt. If you buy or own an H4N, don't waste any more time or think about it, just buy this DVD. The only question I have is why ZOOM does not include the DVD in every box.

Watching this video not only answered every question I had, but shoved it permanently into my brain. It also gave me the inspiration to do things I had not considered before. I bought the Zoom just to do external capture of better audio for video work, but now I am having fun exploring other capabilities including multiple track recording (which has one of the most adorable interfaces I have seen on a piece of tech gear, ever).Granted, I have very low expectations for most training videos of this type, but this video so greatly exceeded them that I wish other forms of product training used it as a standard. It does exactly what you hope for: teach step-by-step tutorials on doing anything you want to do with the Zoom, but adds the one most important thing most manuals and training leave out -- teaching you the "why" for these features along with the "how". And this guy does it with an enthusiasm for the product and capabilities that is infectious and motivating.If you are in any way overwhelmed by the Zoom, that will immediately stop. After the first 30 minutes of this video, I could not imagine why I had been reluctant to use more than the most basic default options. I should mention that I do not come from a pro audio background, so most of the terminology was new to me, but the examples and explanations for everything in this video made it all clear and useful.Best use of my time and money, period. I wish he did training videos for all my other non-audio gear!

I found the manual a bit hard to understand all the different ways to connect devices and record sound using the Zoon H4n. This DVD took me in different directions, that i hadn't thought of and showed me more ways to fully use the recorder. I wish it came with the Zoom H4n and a DVD on the Cubest 5 Le software that comes packaged with the zoom too. Documentation in the manual just doesn't do the Zoom justice and the same goes for the Cubest 5 Le software. I find great benefit in seeing how others are using the device, it open a whole new world of options and tricks to try out. It had mixed reviews when I bought it. I finding it was worth seeing what the Zoom H4n could do and how it was done. Too bad there wasn't more on the Cubest 5 Le software, That alone could fill a DVD. If you are an advanced sound guy you may not need this DVD, but it could help explain useage to people that you might hire on a location shoot. It came very fast and I had no problems with the seller.

I have to confess that I really didn't expect much in terms of video quality. Instead, I just wanted to learn a few tips and tricks about my new Zoom H4N and was willing to suffer through whatever poor video quality I would be confronted with. Wow!! Was I shocked. This is really an amazing video. In terms of content, the DVD very quickly introduces you to the basics of the Zoom H4N and then covers a number of tips, tricks and secrets found no where within the owners manual. But there's a bonus, the host, video and audio quality are better than many televised cable shows. Really first rate. Some videos you need to review time and again to get the information you need. Certainly, you'll want to watch this video over and over. However, the host and video do such a superb job that you'll be amazed at just how much you pick up during the first viewing. Again, I really can't recommend this video highly enough!

This DVD is a brilliant way to understand and enjoy the way the H4N works and how to get the best from it. I would strongly recommend this product to anyone wishing to get the best from their recorder as it is easy to understand and a very user friendly format and presentation.
