I got this lighter mostly for display, so it isn't used much. It has been sitting for months and is as bright and shiny as the day it was delivered. It has a smooth, shiny, transparent protective coating that seems to repel water. My guess is it will continue to display its fine finish for a reasonable time if well-maintained. Will it last 5, 10, 25 or a hundred years? I don't know. But at this price point, a year or two of useful life is all I can reasonably expect. Everything eventually wears out. I'm reminded of this by my creaking knees when I get out of bed every morning.
