new favorite shorts
I am a long time 5.11 fan and nearly my entire EDC transport load-out consists of 5.11 components. I recently decided to give their garments a try and I've just spent my first weekend breaking these shorts in and I am certainly overly impressed. To break it down, here is a typical on-person EDC load-out for each day of the week:* Hazard 4 Badger w/ reverse side ID holder, holding a Maxpedition All-Weather Trekker Pen, Kent 81T Beard Comb and med alert ID stainless tag* Streamlight 88030 Protac Tactical Flashlight 1L* Smith & Wesson SWMP4LS M&P Linerlock Auto* IWB holster* Keys utilizing a FreeKey System and True Utility TU245 Key Ring Clips, w/ a Petzl Spirit Bent Gate Carabiner, Countycomm ScrewKeys, Countycomm CR123 lithium vault, Kingston DTSE9 and bottle opener* Smith & Wesson SWPEN3BK Tactical Pen with Stylus Tip* Moleskine Mini-Organizer Portfolio w/ Moleskine Volant x-small ruled notebook* iPhone 4S in a Magpul Field Case, Black* Casio FT500WV-5BV Forester Luminescent WatchAll of that (minus the watch) fits easily in these shorts -- but the most impressive part is that not only does it all fit, I am extremely comfortable, too. This is the most pleasant experience I've had (shorts or pants) with my entire EDC load-out on my person. Nothing shifts, rides, digs, sags, catches or is inconvenient to access. In addition to all the above, when I go on my nights walks with my dogs, you can add a Streamlight 88040 ProTAC HL and holster, a Midland GXT1000VP4 Two-Way Radio and dog waste bags to the mix and it still all fits just fine without discomfort. The DWR coating is extremely convenient and has so far stood up to light drizzle, dog slobber and a slight spill mishap over the weekend... everything just beaded up and fell off.The waistband on these shorts is probably the most comfortable and prized part of the garment. Easily the most comfortable and versatile waistband I've had the pleasure to wear. The oversized belt loops offer excellent spacing and support for all my gear, the elastic and inner lining offers great comfort and the metal snap closure with backup interior button offer reliable and convenient closure.I'll be purchasing multiple pairs of these shorts in various color treatments, and will likely try out the pants in the same series and have no doubt I'll be just as pleased with them.[UPDATE, 4/21/2013]:I've had quite a bit more time to assess these shorts and have determined that they are easily my favorite shorts I've ever owned. Perform very well in high humidity as well.

Superior Clothing
I was in Law Enforcement for 26 years, including a "plain clothes" (not "undercover") Team for a year. We were able to chose our work clothes while on this Team. So we went to the Police Uniform store and looked around. That's where/when I discovered 5.11 pants. After looking around for a while the Team decided to go with the 5.11s. What a great choice! Deep "Cargo Pockets." Plenty of belt loops (good for supporting a "pancake" holster with gun inserted), as well as a durable material and a good fit. Ever since then (18 years ago), I have been wearing 5.11 pants and shorts for my civilian attire.I purchased this new pair of 5.11 shorts; not because my other two pairs wore out, but because I got paint on both of them while working on my property. I don't mind wearing paint-stained clothing, but I also wanted a "clean" good-looking pair of shorts, so that's why I purchased this additional pair. While on the job, I noticed that the Medics (Ambulance First Responders) wear black 5.11 pants as part of their regular "uniform."I prefer the poly/cotton blend over the 100% cotton, because the the poly-cotton blend fabric is both lighter and cooler.Highly Recommend!

Good shorts, durable and good looking
Bought these shorts to replace a decade old pair of cargo shorts that simply ran their course (rest ye well, friend, you earned it). I will say I really like these shorts. The pockets, the features, the color... All great. These are durable without being overly heavy, which is an upgrade from the old pair which felt so weighty you might expect them to deflect bullets. Also, the fabric looks like it will resist fading and stains which is a step up from the old pair as well.Lots of pockets in these, all fasten securely and allow for easy access. The shorts themselves move freely, and fit true to size. In addition, I find that these are wearable in social settings without looking like I am a little kid playing army.My only complaint, and it is a minor one, is that unlike the old cotton shorts this material doesn't seem to break in and retains some stiffness regardless of wear/wash/fabric softener. If that's the price of durability I will pay, but these will never become the go-to for something comfortable to wear around the house.
