Q: Which is a better fit with the BSA Sweet 3-9x40 scope, this or the mediun profile mount?

It depends on the type of rifle you mount it on. It fit nicely on my Henry AR7 Survival 22lr, but it is not high enough to use the peep sight, at least with the Simmons 3-9x40 scope. I used it because it allowed me to put 1" rings on the small 3/8 rail.

Q: will this work on a mosin-nagant 91/30 rifle

This UTG HP mount fits 3/8" dove tails which depending on your particular model, you will find under the rear sight of your MN91/30. Two pins located in the rear sight base will need to be removed, keep in mind some are soldered in place and require heat removal. However, the lack of fine adjustment leaves some hunters with the desire to add a scope. Several companies make scope rings that can be mounted to the dovetail under the rear sight of the Model 91/30, sight bases that can be mounted to the dovetail, and scope mounts that can be fixed to the rifle without drilling or tapping.So, the easy answer is Yes, this mount should work but, factor in questions such as, What scope will I be using/long or short eye relief, Will a canter lever mount work best for my scope/size/eye relief.As for the mount itself, I prefer the Instapark One Piece High Power Magnum Airgun Scope Mount with Stop Pin found here on Amazon for a few $'s more, JMHO. In my experiance, it's a more solid lockdown, mounted correctly.Hope this helps.

I mounted mine on a standard 3/8" dovetail on a Henry 004 pump action rifle Works very well for me.Ed

Yes Donnie, If u have a dovetail mounting surface on your.177 it will work.
