No, they are powered by battery and use wireless signal to communicate. No wiring needed.

Q: If i buy the six-pack can i link only 3 to each other in group 1 and the other 3 independently to group 2? buying for a house with two separate apts

The 6 packs are already pre- linked.. There are 3 packs as well, I will suggest buy two of those as that will best fit your project.

Q: Is there a combination CO/Smoke detector that will link to these?
