Product Description Ages past the Forest was awakened and the Moon unleashed a ravenous Beast upon the Earth. Man cowered in fear...Three hundred years later the landscape of the world has been drastically rewritten. The remnants of humanity are divided as never before. Half seek a tenuous coexistence with the Forest half seek to dominate and subdue that which they cannot understand.Agito the son of an aged hero inadvertently sets in motion the destruction of all that is left when he revives the young Toola from her timeless slumber. Unable to reconcile life as she once knew it from the world as it is now Toola calls forth ancient technology to reshape the future from the ashes of the past. With the blessing of the Forest Agito must first save the girl from herself in order to rescue them all. .com Outstanding animation and a compelling environmental message make Origin: Spirits of the Past an above-average anime feature, especially for younger viewers. Despite an abundance of elements that many anime fans will find familiar, Origin distinguishes itself with a story that lends itself (like many anime features) to a variety of spectacular settings. As the fairy-tale story begins, it's been 300 years since terrible events left civilization in ruins. Now, in a post-apocalyptic setting where the crumbling remains of vast cities lie in close proximity to the encroaching forest, humans live on both sides of a brewing conflict. For young Agito, the son of an aging hero, life is relatively peaceful in Neutral City, a community built within the ruins of a once-major city. But when he wanders into a forbidden zone of the forest, where plant-like "druids" protect their world from outsiders, he discovers a cryogenic stasis tube containing Toola, a girl who's been resting in stasis for 300 years. Her father had been in charge of the "Earth Rejuvenation Project" that led to a technological disaster, and her emerging friendship with Agito is threatened when they find themselves on opposing sides of an ideological conflict, and Agito must save Toola from her potentially destructive convictions. He does so by becoming "enhanced"--essentially melding his human form with the forest, aligning himself with the powerful forces of nature. As a colorful mixture of science fiction and "green-friendly" adventure, Origin has a lot to say about preserving our planet in the era of global warming, and it's a visual treat from start to finish. --Jeff Shannon

Highlight Movie of a Never Done Series
Origin: Spirits of the Past is a movie that will delight you and disappoint you. 300 years ago genetic engineering to develop plants that could survive harsh conditions led to disaster: the plants gained consciousness, destroyed the Moon, and invaded the Earth. Today the remnants of mankind struggle to survive amidst the ruins of their civilization, either in uneasy cooperation with the sentient forest or in total opposition to it. But all that begins to change upon the day that the boy, Agito, finds and accidentally awakens the girl, Toola, a survivor of the previous world who unknowingly carries the power to restore the world… or destroy it.Origin is a staggeringly beautiful movie; its look and premise will definitely remind you of Laputa: Castle in the Sky and, especially, of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind . Even the somewhat noticeable 3D animation works, and unlike Children Who Chase Lost Voices , the story of Origin actually makes perfect sense. Unfortunately, a little too perfect. There is a telling moment in the live action feature about the making of the movie, in which they mention that when they first started laying out the story, it ran to five hours, which they then had to crunch down to 90 minutes, and that’s exactly what it feels like: the highlight movie of a never done TV series. There are way too many scenes, especially towards the climax, that feel shortened or hurried: Toola’s side switching, the Ragna Army’s side switching, the whole E.S.T.O.C. story, the climax of the fight between Agito and the bad guy, etc. Even the central bad guy seems affected. On the one hand he offers a reasonable sounding argument on the surface, at the beginning; on the other hand the minute Toola is out of earshot he orders Agito’s execution. All in all it has an intriguing premise, some amazing concepts, and a likable central couple you will really get a feel for, but it probably would have worked a lot better as a 12 or 13 episode TV series than as a 90 minute movie.

Never forget john
This movie was a 10/10 experience, I see people writing about how a lot of things arn't explained. But there is literally many parts of the movie that explain mostly everything you'd want to know lol.But what makes this 10/10, was my boy john. Dude only had 3 scenes, literally punching a flying molten rock like it was nothing. Would watch again, just for john.

Can you Save the Future… Become a tree??
Own, Online Viewing, or EvadeThis movie is worth Owning.Overall Rating 4/5That title comes from the trailer. I added the question marks though. The movie is basically about a guy becoming a super plant man to save his friend.Something like that… Don’t dig too deep here, you won’t find much. It’s a post apocalypse movie with people at odds with sentient plants. How did it all happen, what’s next, what is this super plant man guy? You’ll learn some of this maybe. It’s a pretty good action movie. Sometimes making sense isn’t completely necessary…Theme Songs 4/5The movie had solid opening and ending songs. They fit the movie very well.Ending 4/5NO spoilers, the ending was…. pretty good. The movie wasn’t as complicated as it seems initially.

story well told
You can read the blurb/summation of the story. This is a beautifully animated, and well told story. The story line while seemingly simple is wonderfully complex. It ranks, as far as I'm concerned, right up there with GRAVE OF THE FREFLIES. I will as the story is not as down as GRAVE the story and its moral are equally important. The sound track is OK there are segments where it really not needed, and some places a little heavy handed as well as being way to western. Would I recommend this story, yes definitely. While this film is excellent, because of the musical score And it almost mis-matched score, it does not quiet make it to the epic status of GRAVE or AKIRA. However, the animation definitely belongs up there. Yes, I would recommend view and having it in ones collection.

3.5 Stars
Visually this movie was amazing. Music and voice acting were also top notch(For anyone keeping score, I viewed this product in japanese with subs, to quote an old friend, "Bad Japanese voice overs are better than bad english voice overs because with the japanese voice over you don't understand just how bad it really is")The story, however, was entertaining, but there are a couple of points where everything grinds to a halt and takes awhile to pick the speed back up.Overall I would recommend this movie to most anime fans. Not quite on the same level as Steamboy as far as entertainment value goes, but if you can look past a couple of slow points in the story line, the visual and audible parts of this movie will blow you away.

Loved it
Spirits of the Past is a very environmentally themed anime. Although I don't consider myself as being someone well-versed in anime, compared to other titles this one is very well animated with well-done CGI as well. The action scenes and fights are very detailed and you can tell that much work and attention to detail were put into them. As for the story... Well, I felt like it was kind of rushed as not much of the past events were revealed nor were the characters' lives explored much. Coolness factors? Plenty, including ***possible spoilers***: giant walking artillery robots, stasis pods, a 'living forest', forest-enhanced fighting capabilities (which reminded me of Naruto when he's in Sage mode), and a giant moving volcano.

Disappointing.
As much as I want to love this film, I can not bring myself to flaunt it. As many others before me, I was misled by the trailer (epic song with the greatest preview editing of the most epic of the film's scenes) and awaited something spectacular. Needless to say, I was disappointed. The characters are bland: typical shounen boy and evil mastermind, no variant there. The male protagonist, once awakened to his power, seems to have his vocabulary reduced to the simple and annoying name of the girl protagonist, the only character sporting a kind of interesting duality between her desires and the greater good of mankind. The story's premise itself was simple enough, though the preview made a bedazzling presentation of it, incorporating original elements that would probably have made the film a fabulous one had they been more exploited. On the plus side: the trailer's song WAS really good.

Super Anime Film
Intressantes Thema. Aktuell - immer wieder. Kann ich nur empfehlen.

Begeisterung pur
