Hair flinging sharp
Simple solid. Not made to be pretty. Made to be trustworthy. Something you can always count on, like a best friend. Has the file ridges on the unfinished part of blade. When you feel it you know you have real tool steel in your hand. I have many knifes in my collection but if I could only choose one, it would be on a short list. Before the edge is put on the blade is coated with a protective coating, light green in color to prevent discoloration. I like it. You could actually shave with it. Be careful

Serious blade for...
...a reasonable price.I have a few other Anza knives and this one is as rugged, durable, and sharp as the others. Some knives are works of art, this one is meant to be used.

Love this knife.
I just received the dune slayer. It is extremely high quality blade & handle very well crafted. The black leather sheath is also well made. I will be ordering another Anza knife, smaller this time for fishing & rabbit hunting.

A very high-quality and distinctive knife. More impressive in person...
I don’t normally write reviews for things I buy on here. I figured I’d make an exception in this case.First, I have to say, these knives are really more impressive in person.Aesthetics:My knives came with shaving-sharp and mirror-polished edges that contrast nicely with the dark gray of the file steel. I really like that these are made from files, it gives the knives a special character that I hadn’t ever seen before. Also the way the cutting pattern of the files transitions into the hollow grind of the blade looks really wicked-cool set against the gray-green micarta handle scales. The knives are also extremely well-centered and straight and the artisan file work on the spine is a nice touch. For those interested. There is no overt-trademarking anywhere on the blade, just a simple trademark and year of manufacture printed neatly on the handle of the knife.Function:Did I mention that these suckers come shaving sharp. The cutting power is fantastic, and only made better by the long, slender belly the slayer provides. The handle feels good in the hand. I have not done any heavy work with these knives yet, but I have held them tightly in my hands for several minutes without any fatigue. The weight is almost perfect, with the center of mass just over the finger-groove in the handle. Although weighty, the blade is quite maneuverable for its length.Sheath:I don’t own many fixed blade knives, so I’m not much of an expert on sheaths. I will say that the sheaths these knives come with do hold them very snugly. I have held the sheaths upside-down, knife-in, and shaken them, and the knives do not fall out. The stitching and the Anza branding are very well-done and it does not look like anything will come loose anytime soon. Also the belt-loop is made from the leather of the sheath and also appears quite sturdy though I haven’t had a chance to really test it out yet.Wishlist:The only thing I wish these had is a bit of finger-jimping on the spine just forward of the finger-choil. It seems a bit strange to have jimping just behind where the sharpening-choil would be, but none on the spine. Also a sharpening-choil would be nice too; but those seem to be out of vogue these days anyway. Also:Just a minor complaint, one of my knives came with a bit of rust on the blade, but it came right off and did not impact performance or aesthetics in any way.Outlook:This is a uniquely rugged looking knife with lots of character and great cutting power. As a knife collector myself, I would be very happy to receive one of these bad boys as a gift.

Always unique
It is impossible to write too specific a review of any one Anza model, as each is handmade from a different file, and thus Anza knives are all slightly different from one another, even if they are sold under the same model name.Generally, Anza Knives makes beautiful but powerful knives from old tool steel files. The Dune Slayer is one of their largest models, and with Anza's skillful annealing and reshaping, it turns from and old file into a wickedly sharp and durable camp/combat/survival knife with functionality to rival blades twice its price. The DS is not particularly colorful, but its uniqueness lends it a rustic elegance that no other manufacturer quite achieves. You could trust your life to these knives, and if you maintain them properly, they will undoubtably last for generations.
