These are watersoluble so don't expect them to be waterproof. But they are easily blendable with water. If you want to use them for small sketches I suggest using a watercolor or watercolor/mixed-medai sketching paper that will hold up to a bit of scrubbing for the best results. In fact, I recommend using better quality paper generally--you will like the results more.Nor are the colors lightfast, like a lot of quality watercolors, acrylics or oils. But if you use the like in a journal or closed book, I suspect that they will last a long time. But they are not recommended for fine art that is to be framed and thus exposed to light over time.Also, they do not bleed through a lot of decent papers like permanent markers do.I find these brush pens especially for quick small sketches. For years I have used the grays for doing little studies in preparation for larger art work, like paintings.Highly recommended.
