Use the Best - Barra Mexican Chocolate
I've been using Barra Mexican Chocolate for all my Latin meals. Best for the 65 ingredient Mole sauces.

Traditional Style Mexican Hot Chocolate
This is the traditional style of Mexican Hot Chocolate I grew up with....It is not the sugary sweet chemically laden crap sold as "Hot Chocolate" by "American Style" Chocolate companies. Take a chocolate tablet from the package, add a quart of whole milk (or lactose-free whole milk), and melt it over medium heat in a saucepan....if you think it needs to be sweeter, then breakout some Mini-Marshmellows on top (but at least you can control the sugar!!)

Very disappointed in taste.
This product was highly rated by Consumer Reports so we tried it. Our fault for not checking Google images on the directions because it's not a powdered product. The product is chocolate-bar style in a thick (almost half inch) round disc shape with pie-shape marking. It must be chopped up with a very sharp knife. Add to that frustration, the taste is not rich as expected. It was only $8 but it was so heavy our mail forwarder charged us $16 shipping! Ugh.

Great Authentic Mexican Hot Chocolate
Tastes exactly as I remember it as a kid. For ease of preparation at hunt camp, I break it up with a hammer, then with a blender turn it into a powder. Store in a jar. It worth all the effort. Nothing better on a cold day!

Pretty good
I'd wanted to try this style of hot chocolate for a while. It was pretty good & the extra effort was worth it to make, but a bit expensive & I'd probably only get it again if I was having a house party & wanted to show off by making "fancy" hot chocolate

A pleasant and unique brew that requires patience. Chocolate and cinnamon, delightful!
I really enjoy this hot chocolate on a cold winter's day, but you have to accept going into it that it isn't something you can rush. You're meant to gradually melt the large puck of solid chocolate in a heavy pan of milk, heating it to just under boiling, while whisking often. Expect it to take about 20 minutes, if you're not making shortcuts. But it's a warm, nice chocolate, rich and spiced lightly with cinnamon, and it smells lovely while making it. My entire family really enjoyed it, and on a cold day, it's a nice excuse to hang around a hot stove for a while.

Delicious!
I love this treat - have it in the morning to brighten my day. I put 1/4 disk in my cup and add a few inches of boiling water from the kettle. Stir it up a bit and it melts easily. Then I add some heated frothed oat or almond milk. For a richer flavour I add some unsweetened cacoa powder and cinnamon. You could add some cayenne too if you like it extra spicy.
