This rig is 100% solid. I was initially concerned about fitment for my specific device—a Google Pixel Pro 8 with a Moment case—but it works flawlessly with my setup. I am confident that this rig will accommodate virtually any smartphone currently available, as the mounting bracket is exceptionally versatile. The value for the money is excellent, especially with the current sale price, though I would recommend it even at full price; I regret not purchasing it sooner. As demonstrated in this video, I had ample room to adjust the phone further if needed. The phone bracket functions perfectly and, as you can see, would likely work even with a thicker case. SmallRig has never ceased to amaze me when it comes to there ingenuity and creativity. This universal phone cage is something I honestly never thought I would have needed, yet here it is, and im definitely a fan. Although the packaging seems a little cheap, the product itself is not. The cage feels very well build and the fact that it's made of aluminum makes it sleek and easy to carry. I own my own creative business and am always looking for new ways to streamline our video production process without having to spend a whole lot of money. In the past couple of year's smartphone cameras have become so powerful that I find myself using just my phone for a lot of my low budget shoots and for clients who don't necessarily have the time or budget for the "cinematic" setup. The one thing that has prevented me from using it more was not being able to find a good way to attach my external devices (ie. Shotgun mic, LEDs, etc.) and the lack of stability I got from holding a small phone with four fingers. ALL THAT IS SOLVED. This cage is so useful in so many ways, and it seems your only limited by the other SmallRig accessories you own. Using some low profile NATO rails and my handle grip I was able to make the rig shown in the images. This has been great for getting smooth low angle shots without having to hold your phone with two hands and strain your back bending over. It also holds your phone extremely well, even when shaking it around violently it stayed in place. I only wish they had somehow found a way to incorporate NATO rails so I didn't have to attach my own, but that's a small CON to the many PROs it has.

I purchased this smartphone cage around three years ago. It has been quite useful for me to create videos using my smartphone. The cage is solidly built, durable, and can be used with any smartphone, not just iPhones. Although I own the older version of the cage, it works just as well as the newer one. If you're considering starting your video-making journey, I highly recommend starting with the smartphone cage. Additional accessories like handles and lights may cost extra, but when combined, the result is well worth the investment.

This is a great cage to incorporate with your phone. It allows the expansion of your phone to allow the use of battery packs, lights, microphones, tripods, monopods, sliders, etc. (see photo) It also allows the connection of handles (recommended--also see photo) to make filming more enjoyable and allow for steadier videos and more possibilities for creativity. The sides of the frame can be loosened and tightened, allowing the user to adjust for better ergonomics when using the optional hand grips, making the frame somewhat customizable making longer shoots (weddings, interviews, events, movies, blogging) possible without fatigue. With multiple attachment points, it’s also easy to customize what accessories you’d like to add. Unlike other cages, the phone clamp is a dial-type, meaning you can screw it down to securely attach your phone without worry. The design of the clamp also allows for unhindered views, with nothing blocking even your phones widest angle photos or videos. However, when using protruding video mics, especially with after-market fisheye lenses, some placement care may be required to keep them out of the frame. Though built well, the cage doesn’t feel completely solid when compared to other camera cages. The four hex bolt attachments feel a bit flimsy, but that may just be my quirk. Another weak spot that worries me is the thin hotshot slot areas where there doesn’t seem to be enough material to make this cage as strong as it could be. These may prove to be break points if, for some reason, the cage could be dropped. However, I’m picking knits with that part of the construction. Overall, the cage is solid and super lightweight. It allows for expansion of accessories and creative possibilities when using your phone for more serious projects. It’s perfect for bloggers, podcasts, interviews, making movies, video clips, etc. After buying and trying other phone clamp systems, this will be my go-to. It’s versatile, expandable (with accessories and options) and allows for the use of tripods, monopods, sliders, gimbals, etc. I have no hesitation in recommending this product for shooters serious about getting professional results from their phones.
