Predictable New Balance quality
Exactly what I want and expect from New Balance: comfortable and light weight, predictable sizing, no defects, looks good, good value. Some reviewers allege that New Balance sizing has changed; I always buy size 10EEEE, and these fit the same as shoes 20 years ago. If you shop online you should learn about New Balance shoe lasts. These are built on SL1, the original sizing. Some styles are built on newer lasts and fit more snugly.

Lightweight and very comfortable.
I have difficult feet. Hunting boots, dress shoes, and to some extent, sneakers all share the exhaustive search for something that's long enough, but wide enough without swimming in it. I'm flat-footed and have been wearing the New Balance 608s for over a decade. I got a bit tired of white, and saw these. I checked the tag on my 608s: 11EEE.I bought these in 11 "Wide," with hopes of not having to exchange them. In short, I feel like my feet were scanned by computer and the sneakers were 3D printed for my personal feet.Couldn't be happier. Perhaps not a shining endorsement as my experience is attributed mostly to first-time fit; but I am thrilled to death after my first time internet purchase of footwear. And $48 bucks? C'mon!! Great deal, great experience, great sneaker.

Sum of its parts
This shoe, for me, does an excellent job at many things. It's fine for a good 3-5 mile run and the stability of it with the traction for trail running/hiking is great. The version I have says "H2O Protect" I never noticed until I received them and water does bead up and roll off well.I initially thought they weren't fitting well until after a couple of runs then a little lace adjustment (replaced too-thin laces) and they now fit great. Sole is still a little stiff but should give great durability in return.I have 2 pair of 481v3 that I prefer for cushioning and being "only" a 400 series they are great too (All-Weather black/black).I like trail runners for the gym too as their inherent wide platform and stability is useful unless you're bouncing around in a zoomba class listening to annoying music:)The only reason no "5" rating is they are a little homely and the laces too thin. Otherwise is you get a good sale price (I paid 42) they are a steal and are superior to the v5 by far.Good job NB!

Good shoe
Very comfortable and lightweight for a trail running shoe. Plenty of room in the toe box and seems to have slightly more room in the heel area than most shoes. Rubber toe protector is nice to help keep dew off and protect from debris. Good traction. Arch support is minimal, but I wear custom inserts so it wasn't an issue for me. The tongue is not stitched all the way up so those with an arch should not have an issue. The soles can be easily removed and replaced, if necessary. The shoe "squeaked" a bit at first but seems to be subsiding the more I wear them. I haven't water tested them but with a mesh top, I don't believe these will have any water resistance. Overall, I would recommend these.

Black M990v4
For the last ten years I've been wearing the New Balance 412 trail running shoe and loved them so I wanted to find the same shoe again. Unfortunately they don't make the model any more so I researched NB shoes and found the M990v4 to be the one that came closest. Amazon had a good price (unfortunately black cost more than most ither colors) so i snagged up a pair. The fit and build quality was almost identical to the 412 but the shoe was a lot lighter. Hopefully this is a good thing.I have Morton's Neuroma in my right food so i need space for my foot to move around. These are a perfect fit for me. I also use metal arch inserts whuch fit well. If you want a thin running shoe this isnt it. These are roomy.I added a picture for those looking to get the all black pair. The are not 100% black due to the this silver threads that run through most of the shoe. Most people however will not notice.Great shoe.

Great fit! But developed a hole.
These shoes fit very well for me and are one of the most comfortable shoes I have owned. If there is a down side, it would be that the laces are could be a little longer. I use the heel lock feature and when I do it makes the laces almost too short. But that would not keep me from buying these shoes again. I would also mention that these are the V5 version of the 510 shoes. I also have the V5 version and i like the V4 a lot better that V5.Update: Since my first review, I have noticed that this shoe has developed a small hole in the toe of the right foot. I do not seem to find any information about how to contact someone on this. Even though I wear these shoes every day, I feel like this is not satisfactory for this product. This is the first time I have encountered a problem with any of my New Balance shoes and I have been wearing them for many years. I originally started with the 608s but these have evolved in such a way that the toe area is too pointed. So I switched to this shoe. This is very disappointing because overall I have been satisfied with the shoe.

Best crossover shoes for casual to hiking
I'm fortunate to live near Glacier National Park in Montana. These trail running shoes are great for day hikes on mountain trails. Although not a runner, I do a lot of hiking. They have a fairly stiff sole which offers great support. I've never rolled my ankle in these shoes. I just bought my second pair after 3 years of frequent use. I wear orthotics which I can easily insert. But these shoes look good enough to wear as everyday casual around town and to school. The gray and black goes well with most of my clothes and the bright gold color trim is not a detraction like some other shoes with fluorescent neon colors.

Calidad
