If you're building heavy shed doors, like me (3/4" plywood, framed with 2x4s), you'll want hinges that can be anchored into the studs, not just into the framing. Depending on your framing, and how much shimming you need to plumb the rough opening, the hinges might need to be anchored a good 2" from the inner edge of the door in order to reach the studs. Most shed hinges are too small to reach that far, but these solved the problem. The hinges can be anchored into the studs, leaving the first screw hole of the door side of the hinge unusable (see the picture), but the remaining four screw holes are quite enough to support even a heavy door. The hinges look good and work well. The included screws were pretty flimsy, but you should always select screws for your specific application anyway. Deck screws fit perfectly in these holes; I used 3" deck screws on the anchor side and 2" deck screws on the door.

I bought these 8" hinges after going to the a big box store and running out when I saw the price they had. I wouldn't call these heavy duty but they work and hopefully for a long time. The screws they come with are for light duty use. I used some longer heavy duty screws to hold my shed doors in this 7' x7' opening. The paint finish is quite good. I plan on painting them, but getting banged around during construction I haven't seen any chips or rust so far.

These strap hinges seem well made and will work fine for our shed doors, but the hardware is another story. They are tiny sheetrock screws, and low quality ones at that. Be prepared to furnish your own hardware w/ this set of hinges.

I really don't know how to approach this. This is the sixth set of these I have purchased. So, obviously, I am okay with the hinges. But, let's get real about the screws! The supplied screws were little #6 X 3/4 inch screws like you would use on kitchen cabinet hinges - NOT heavy duty 10 inch barn style hinges. The heads did not quite fall through the holes in the hinges, but it would not have taken hardly any effort at all to pull them through. They should have been at least #12 X 1 1/4 inches. I don't know what they were thinking.

Hinges are decent but the screws are a joke. One inch light weight wood screws that are simply not designed to hold the weight or stress of a gate. For gate hinges 3/8 inch lag screws should be used...the screws provided are simply and totally inadequate for the job. If you order these hinges be sure to order enough lag screws to get the job done right.
