amazing little stove
We never thought we would convert over to a canister stove but this little guy totally changed all of that. My husband and I took this stove on it's maiden voyage last fall on a 10 day backpacking trip. We only used one 8oz canister and part of another for the entire trip. That's how efficient this little guy is. And contrary to belief this stove will simmer...it's a little tricky to get it to, but you can with a light touch on the gas.We used it on a winter backpacking trip too recently, and it did well, but we had to keep the canister warm for maximum efficiency. I actually put a hand warmer under the canister to keep the fuel mixed. Some people recommend putting the canister in a pan of warm water. It's very fast at melting snow and it's very quiet which is great. You won't be disappointed....

The best small camping stove to boil water. Excellent unit
I used one the the entire trip I took to complete the John Muir Trail in California. 23 days and over 220 miles. It was a complete success and used far less fuel that I anticipated.

MSR Reactor Stove, Tough, Reliable, Powerful, need one? GET IT!!
Well... it's an MSR so now what...love it. I'm a big'ol MSR fan so I almost just wanted a reactor stove just to be able to say I have one! The Reactor is an old model (debuted in 2007) but an effective old goodie! very simple to use no "excess" parts, just a pot and a stove; you'll need your own matches or one of their piezo-electric igniters as it has no built-in ignition source. The stove is good, It's tough, functional, reliable and plenty powerful at 9k BTUs... It can cook food or heat water pretty fast to get ya fed or warmed up... You can get this unit with pot sizes of 1-liter, 1.7-Liter and a big azz 2.5 liter pot VERY NICE.my only 2 boohoo's.... I have the 1-liter model and1. the stove won't fit in the pot along with a small fuel can and other crap that I like to throw in with a stove like tri-pod leg, a piezo igniter, fuel source adapter, small towel to keep things quite etc... The stove has to sit up on side to fit in the 1 liter.2. The fuel valve seems to only go so far before turning it really doesn’t seem to be doing anything so adjustability for simmering etc… is just more difficultBeyond that if you’re a serious hiker, outdoorsman, soldier in the field or just someone looking for a backup plan to be able to cook a little or heat water and eat, this stove will get the job done in fairly windy environments and can still breathe and work just fine higher altitudes…Alota, these lil' Issues were resolved in the WindBurner line of MSR stoves which are the direct decedents of the Reactor...

You need to see it to believe it!
Boiled water in 90 seconds. I absolutely love this thing. Easily the best portable stove on the market. Well worth the price and the 2.5 Liter is perfect for camping with a friend and feeding 2 to 3 people.

The King!
It does one thing. It boils water. Fast. It is the best. The only negative is the price, it is expensive.Car camping, overlanding, trailer, Sprinter, etc. I do all of them and this is always part of my kit

This is junk
When I buy MSR I expect the best. I put it away after one season, and yes, it was dry. At least as dry as I could make it with toweling it and the pot off. I pulled it out this year and large pieces were missing from the base. I mean, like the base was crumbling away like it was made from dirt, and the rivets were corroding and the brass on the little relief valve was turning green and gunky. I think the base is made from pot cast zinc. They definitely have dissimilar metals corrosion and are not living up to the MSR standards. For $300 I expect an expedition quality stove that has user serviceable parts. I will be surprised if I can get two years out of this. It was my big splurge last year (I have 4 kids and I can't just go through money away on a new stove every year).
