This product made my speculation.

Child's portions
I purchased this for my granddaughter who usually likes to bring her own lunch to school. It was a great size and was easy for her to use. The only difficult part is if you are tightening the container to ensure no leakage or to contain the heat/cold, it will be come hard for your child to open it. What I found to work well, if she wanted to bring something hot for lunch, was to boil water in the microwave and put it in the containers and close them. That would pre-warm the containers and when we were ready to pack her lunch we would merely pour out the water and put the food in! Great option for creating portions of food for either your children, grandchildren, or yourself!

Not practical
It’s cute, but not functional. The designers of this lunchbox should try using it for its intended purpose for at least 3 days. Today I spilled soup all over my pants while trying to open it. There is no mechanism other then gripping the slick round surface that has a circumference that requires an extra large male hand, and then rotating it. If you’re trying to open one compartment, often another one gives in more easily, or often they’re stuck. Since you have food in there that frequently has moisture, you can’t tilt it to help youself, but now you have to tilt it to get some leverage, risking spilling your food. If there is some grease in the food, which inevitably gets into the plastic seals, the task becomes too cumbersome and not practical if you’re eating in your car….How do you get to the middle compartment? What do you do with the other half of the lunchbox once you open the desired compartment? Let’s say you open them all and set them on a table. The bottom of each compartment is the lid for the one below it, with all the moisture, grease, mayonaise or whatever is in your food. All that now gets on your table. Be prepared with extra paper towels or plastic bag to set it on. On one occasion the lunchbox also leaked, after it leaked the grease on it made it impossible to open any compartment. Another problem with this lunchbox is - what kind of diet is this designed for? The compartments other than the lower one are too small for every 2-3 hour diet, they might work for Japanese style lunch…. After using it for one week, I won’t be using it any more. It’s an overpriced product that is not well though out.

Our kids have to ask teachers to open these up
We bought two of these upon recommendations by family friends. For two or so months our kids (one in third grade and the other in seventh grade) found themselves continually having to ask teachers to help them separate the various compartments of these at lunch time. Finally, today nobody could help our seventh-grader. Two of her compartments are irreparably stuck together. You can twist the two components in question, but they won't unscrew, because of a design flaw that allows the lower plastic part of the upper compartment to rotate in place; they swivel relative to one another. The container is now useless to us.Update: After spending at least half an hour, wearing nonslip gloves, and dipping the container in 150-degree water, nothing worked. The bottom two components kept swiveling relative to one another. Finally, I took a blunt knife, slipped it between the two compartments, and did a slight axial twist, as though to separate the two parts. I heard the kind of "fss" sound characteristic of when you open a vacuum-sealed jar. The two components finally came apart.Retrospective? When you put hot items in a compartments, and close the top one over it, once the air inside cools it contracts, creating a vacuum environment. It then becomes quite challenging to separate the two parts---certainly the effort is way above the proverbial pay scale of school kids.I'll increase my star rating from 2 to 3, but only because the situation was salvaged, and because in terms of materials used, this product is solid.

Perfect for eating healthier
Perfect for me. I put either salad. Or dry soup, in the bottom portion, I usually put a sandwich, cut into small squares, in the insulated cup in the center cup, and granola, nuts, or grapes with cheese squares in the top, white portion. That third, insulated cup, I put in whatever fun snack I have, like dried pineapple, yogurt with blueberries, or any sliced fruits I have around. Sometimes i just put flavored rice. For me, it is perfect for portion control, healthy snacking (because it is too easy to eat junk while sitting in front of a computer all day), and a light lunch. I purchased the gray with the upgraded gray bag and black carrying strap. I didn't like the felt bag with the colored carrying strap. Plus, the reviews are bad for that one. The upgraded bag is made with a much more durable material, and the straps are strong. Much more eye pleasing also. I have put dried soup in the bottom cup, and heated water at work to make it. I had left over soup and it did not leak when I took it out at home. Not everyone is able to do that in their workplace. I have not put any hot food in yet. I can't attest to if it keeps hot food hot. But, it keeps my yogurt cold. I do not wash it in the dishwasher. It washes quick and easy by hand. I have learned to not screw the top part on overly tight, and have not had any issues opening it since. If a child can be taught not to screw the top on tightly, they could use this, except it may be considered too large for them. They may not like carrying it, and pulling it out at lunch time. Might embarrass them. Depends on the kid. They make these in more kid friendly options. I just ordere a mint green one, with only 2 insulated portions and 2 small, snack portions. It has adorable, white polka dots on the bottom section. It also comes with silverware and the upgraded insulated bag. But, I found her a lunch bag that is mint green with white polka dots also. That way she can take her fruit drink and water also. I purchased cute, bear shaped rice molds, fun shaped sandwich cutters, and cute shaped fruit cutters. We have fun prepping our lunches the night before. My coworkers have complemented mine and one said she is going to get herself one.
