Gutted a cow elk no problem
This is my hands down all time favorite fixed blade hunting knife. My second favorite is the Benchmade hidden canyon hunter. Considering the price difference, Gerber beats it by a mile. It held an edge from cutting through fur and skin on the chest. Stayed sharp enough to cut the diaphragm out cleanly and skinned the whole animal. I did not batton it through the chest or hip bones, however. We used a small hatchet for that. Over all a fantastic value for the real world hunter. Its quality enough to last and function well, cheap enough that you don't cry if you lose it. Also not heavy at all.

Gerber wlWork Knife
No frills, just a pure working knife that comes razor sharp, sturdy, goodhefy, balance, quality and easy to sharpen. Nothing to knock, just does what it's supposed to do and tough as they come.

Perfect Knife for Size
Was looking at some more expensive fixed blade Gerbers and noted the reviews for the freeman Guide. For the price this is an excellent knife. Very sharp out of the box, full tang and excellent grip. The knife is small for a fixed blade but excellent for carry as it is light and easily concealed. This knife is a keeper. Love that it is made in the USA. I ordered two by mistake and trying to decide if I want to keep both???

I have always like Gerber knives and thought this would be a nice ...
I was looking for a full-tang, fixed blade knife in this blade length and decided to purchase this one. I have always like Gerber knives and thought this would be a nice addition to my collection. The blade came pretty sharp out of the package, but I routinely sharpen even my brand new knives and this one sharpens very nicely. The rubber grip is very nice and feels good in the hand and people with smaller hands will especially like this knife. The spine is 90 degrees and works well when using with a ferro rod for fire making and the spine has the right thickness for this knife. I put my index under the top grip fastener and the knife seems to be balanced pretty well. I would've given this knife five stars but the nylon sheath didn't quite make the grade, but don't let that be a deal breaker. The snap on strap on the sheath was a little difficult but I think it will get easier over time. I would say for the price, buy this knife. It's a good value.

Screams "TAKE ME HUNTING!"
I own an earlier, far more expensive version of this knife, also by Gerber, that I have babied and gently used, as it set me back a cool Benjamin when I bought it about 7 years ago. So when I saw it more or less duplicated in form in a much less expensive (and therefore much more likely to be used in the field) version, I put it on my wish list until I had the bucks to snag one.The knife arrived today, exceptionally sharp right out of the package - no need to tune it up. The sheath is adequate (ballistic nylon) and holds the knife snugly in place. The belt loop is wide enough to accommodate my 1.5" leather gun belt or my black, ballistic nylon rig, so that's cool. The handle scales are very grippy, which I like on a field knife that's apt to get wet or slimy - or both. I tend to use my work knives (as opposed to collectors) around the house and property as well as in the field, so this one might get a few licks in out in the yard or garden before hunting season comes.I can't imagine getting much more bang for the bucks than what the Freeman Guide offers, and I don't have to set it aside when the work to be done is demanding: cheap enough to be replaced if it fails. My experience with Gerber blades, however, suggests that I need not worry about failure as long as I remember that it's a knife and not a hatchet, axe, saw, pry bar, splitting maul, or shovel.

Decent quality trail knife for the cost
I have a couple of these and find them to be decent all around low cost knives. My favorite part of the knife is the finger grooves, they fit my hand well and make the knife easy to manipulate and keep a firm grip, but the handle material will wear with regular use. The steel quality isn't anything to write home about and while the light weight makes the knife easy to carry around, it doesnt give it a ton of cutting power and you will require frequent sharpening with use. That said, the price makes it easy to buy a few and if you lose it, you won't take a hit to your wallet.

Best little knife
The GERBER Freeman fixed blade knife is one of the best little knives out there. I do wish it was half serrated, but it’s ok like it is. Blade is just under 4 inches, just right. Came sharp. Handle is rubber and fits the hand good. Wide enough to do working jobs and pointed enough to poke holes. The sheath is useless. Be prepared to find another sheath for this great little knife.

Great Knife
Bought this knife for my son who was looking for a fixed blade edc. Loves it, especially the textured grip. Gerber makes great knives for the price
